Will never happen as long as scumbag Blatter is in charge. He may be voicing is approval of it now but will never implement it in the future.

Maybe he will bring it in to appease his opponents and claw onto his position a little longer.

All this fuss for something that happens a few times a season?

But I don't see why it is so hard to implement.

All you need is a sensor that sends a beam right across the goal face exactly the same distance behind the goalline that the diameter of the ball is, so as soon as the ball breaks the beam, it must have therefore been a minimum of a ball diameter beyond the goalline-ergo a goal. And a read-out that picks up the detection that is with the 4th official so he can tell the referee if the ball was detected on the sensor.

The only problem that I can forsee with something like that is the differentiation between the ball and a player for instance if there is a goalline scramble for instance.

I doubt it. When has Blatter ever cared about what his opponents think. I think the only reason he would bring it in is to strengthen his position as president.

It's not hard to implement. They've had the same thing in ice hockey for years. FIFA just don't want to implement it.

I've just come up with a design in a minute, could probably get most of the stuff down my local Wickes and have it set up in the park in a couple of hours.

My reasoning is that it's a rare occurance so I'm not exactly pushing for it, but some of the reasons why FIFA have declined to use it in the past is baffling. Hasn't one of their excuses been about this technology is that it wouldn't be used at grassroots level. I'm sorry, do they worry about that in tennis or cricket? The use of the review system in Cricket has been encouraged by umpires, no doubt that referees would be in support of something like this.

My only beef is that this sort of scenario doesn't happen that often and when it does, it often gets blown out of proportion. I would be really in favour in technology sorting out incidences that occur in nearly all matches and is a simple yes or no (unlike fouls that are often at the discretion of the referee)- offsides.

Technology could have been introduced a long time ago. However there was never any political will to have it. Blatter may only introduce it to save his own position.
