    About bloody time!!

The Premier League has voted to introduce goal-line technology from the 2013-14 season. British-based Hawk-Eye has been awarded the contract to provide the system. Hawk-Eye uses seven cameras per goal to detect the ball and claims its system is "millimetre accurate, ensuring no broadcast replays could disprove the decision". The Football Association will install a system at Wembley Stadium in time for the August's Community Shield. Top-flight clubs voted to adopt the system during a meeting of the 20 Premier League chairmen on Thursday.

This is loooong overdue, its been clear that something was needed for a long time, now finally something has been done. But how long before complaints about it being wrong????

I have a problem with them using cameras, however accurate they are. It should be chip technology.

Too true Dan, let's hope it's not too long before the referees get some assistance on "off-sides" as well! <ok>

I for one am not so sure about this really. I wonder how many contentious goal-line decisions there have actually been over the years to warrant this financially - and I wonder how it will impact financially upon already cash-strapped clubs when it eventually filters down from the Premier League, as it surely will.

If technology has to be introduced, I suspect that it would be better served by addressing contentious offside decisions - they have led to far more angry confrontations than the occasional 'was it over the line' debates ever did - wouldn't be surprised if stats show up more offside arguments in one match than over-the-line arguments in one complete decade.

I am sure it will be expanded because managers and clubs will demand it now this technology is coming.

Bolton is right though - there aren't actually that many incidents involving goal line issues in reality cimpared to other major moments that impact on a game.

May not be many but they are imncredibly important - so if technology can sort it then sort it - same as in tennis. Offsides and the rest would always be far more problematic - given how long it has taken FIFA or EUFA to approve this I don't think we will see RObo-ref in the near future
