This is an interesting one, something that should have been introduced years ago, the game is so fast paced these days that the refs must make split second decisions and sometimes cock it up as we know, this will help a lot IMO http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15866363.stm
Not sure how important this is on its own, because there are less than a handful of these situations in a season, but hopefully this will lead to more technology being available to referees. We have the technology to make the job of a referee much easier and I think it's only a matter of time.
Football is miles behind when it comes to modernising and technology but are far to advanced when it comes to money and greed....
Fully agree with that, but games with not a huge amount of money in them like cricket and rugby are far away ahead in technology to help them within the game, and tennis has had it for years! I listened to a real radio phone in a few weeks ago where Leighton James was saying it wasn't a good idea, I did phone in and try to discuss this with him but it was to late, basically his stance was to much time would be wasted, and it would come like American Football, my point being is that by the time the ref wastes time with players arguing with him, he could have asked the 4th ref and end of discussion. Basically I want enough technology in the game to ensure match changing decisions are correct, there are probably only 4-5 a game which is not a huge amount , but it will ensure that a multi-billion sport is reffed correctly.
I know it's a bit of a cliché, but I think the uncertainty adds to the game. If all the decisions were right all of the time, it could make the game a touch more sterile. I think the odd wrong decision makes for a great day when it goes your way (and a **** one when it doesn't).
I think, unfortunately, when decisions can be the difference to the tune of tens of millions of pounds, anything that can be done to eliminate unfair variables should be done. It'll be easy enough to incorporate, so the sooner the better in my opinion.
if we needed just one goal on the final day of the season and everyone saw that Danny had beaten the goalkeeper with the ball just over the line only for the ref to rule it did not go in and because of that decision we were relegated then you would be all for goalmouth technology, even Leighton James would. It has to come in soon for fair play and justice...
It's about time too. I'm trying to rack my brains and think of an instance when goal line technology could or should have been used in one of our games but I can't remember one. That shows really how often it would be used.
Can't think of one at the moment, but if further technology was used the goal by Utd on Saturday would have been offside
