Conducting a poll to see what people think , may even start a petition for video appeal technology - inspired by today's appalling refereeing between Manchester united and QPR. Video on this page and poll of goal line technology. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/135979-Video-and-Goal-line-appeal-technology-POLL
I think that Man U will allow the poll - until it starts to become too contoversial - then they'll delete it - just like threads in this forum posted after yesterday's crushing performance against a really dirty opponent. I liked Man Utd's formation ( 1linesman-44 1 ref 2 1 linesman ( sorry I meant joker ) ( 10 threads & several posts deleted so far - was it something I said, maybe the truth ? )
Talk about bitter! If you go by those tables they put together showing how the table would look if officials had got all decisions correct we would still be finishing top each season so I don't see why Man Utd would have any problem with video technology.
I have no reason to be bitter - Now - I know you're not interested - but - mine is a L2 team ! I was making replies to the OP - granted that I added personal opinions. I also stated facts about deleted threads and posts on previous occasions in this forum. These facts were in response to comments spouted by other Man Utd fans. The deletions were fact - in the same way as your mod has closed ( only - rather than deleted ) another thread this morning ( Man Up & admit you cheated - started by stick .)
Swarbs - I've got better things to do than keep on stating the obvious - which continuously keep on being denied - so it would be futile to perform another repition just for you. I have made a concession regarding the pedigree of the Man Utd players - so, yes, their fans can be confident that more often than not, a victory over QPR can be expected - but - the arrogance of the supporters is breath taking. - whatever happened to a bit of humility ? - so please forgive me when teams like Barcelona put you in your place. ( and you seldom see Messi complain despite the number of times he gets chopped - many more times than Young has dived ) Yet - when a member on here asks for your opinion about the penalty decision - if it had been awarded against you in a match v Barcelona ( "who would have won anyway" - to quote a Man Utd memeber )- you don't like it - my claim is that the ' winning anyway' statement ( or the remark that SAF made - that the penalty didn't help you ) makes you look so stupid. A simple admission that the penalty was wrong and that Young dived wouldn't have changed the result, but at least it wouldn't present the fans as fools. - now please excuse me - I'm off to watch my team. ( 100 mile trip for a home game )
Good dodge. The penalty was wrong. Young was offside, the contact was minimal, and he was moving away from the goal without the ball under control, so no red card imo. All three aspects of the decision were wrong. As for diving, well: “Of course we thought the penalty to was harsh but in fairness there is no blame [attached] to Ashley Young. He felt contact and we are the first to say to our players ‘if you feel contact in the box, go down’, because you are looking for any advantage you can get. If he feels contact, he is entitled to go down.” http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...n-insists-young-not-blame-qpr-red-card-169217 And that's from the QPR assistant manager. The sad fact is that every manager and coach now tells their players to go down in the box if there is contact. Helguson did the same for QPR against Chelsea when they won 1-0 at Loftus Road, and if a Utd player had made the same contact on a QPR player in the box they would probably have gone down too. Danny Murphy did the same for Fulham last match when Carrick brushed his ankle. Maybe it's ruining the game, but that's the way the game is nowadays, for all clubs.
Swarbs - thank you for the humility in your answer. I agree that cheating is rife. I do have suspicions about the integrity of the officials. ( the linesman was exactly in line with the last defender when Young was offside )- and I don't know how he 'missed' it. I have a particular problem with the offside rule. It is open to a large variation of individual interpretation of the officials. all players anywhere in the opponents half should be considered as 'active'. The modern game is much faster and involves different aspects of ' gamesmanship ' in and around the ball, that I believe the linesman needs to concentrate on the ball, without the need to see the position of forwards the moment a ball is played - and then think if the player is active etc. Lets do away with this rule ( have an experimental season .) There will still be controversial points - but offside is such a grey area. Now - you might be able to put me right - although I was watching the game, I don't recall the linesman signalling for a penalty ( flag across his chest ) - this is a common occurrence - to me it indicates that the linesman has not deemed it to be a penalty - a conflicting interpretation by an assistant referee. Can you imagine the mayhem if women were referees - they'd never be able to make up their mind.
