FIELDING .. HAMER .. O'LEARY WHO SHOULD BE OUR REGULAR KEEPER? I think we should stick with Frank and maybe if winning by a couple of goals with 10 mins to play or similar swap for Hamer. Frank has had howlers and also saves of magical importance
Not sure anyone can vote for Hamer or the youngster - we haven't seen them enough. The only person who can judge is SC and he picks Fielding - however difficult for me to comprehend.
Not a fan of FF no command of the box, crosses well dodgy, good shot stopper though. Hamer commands the box better, and crosses.
It has to be Fielding for me. A no-brainer. He is our number 1. If you expanded this list to include GKs from other teams then I would probably choose differently - DEFINITELY if David Marshall was available, but for now he's the best we've got. 2 great saves Saturday and the reason we got a point. I commented elsewhere he seems to be having a similar season to last season; dodgy at first but coming good as the season progresses.
'Frank was outstanding on Saturday' '2 great saves Saturday and the reason we got a point' R&W and smhbcfc - I wrote this on another thread : 'Fielding did well from a poorly taken penalty. Flint needs as much, if not more, credit for denying the follow up. His so called wonder save was ordinary, you don't make a wonder save with your left arm going to the right - IMO one for the cameras. Bryan got caught late on which resulted in a long floated cross to the 6yard line, he should have caught/punched it. It left poor Ayling exposed at the back post with Ameobi. Have a look on the 'highlights', interested in your opinion. One thing I will say about Fielding he comes across as a genuinely decent bloke. His conversation with Twentyman in the car home with his Mother was honest and self-deprecating'
Ok, fair enough - but he's still the best we have. Like I said, I would rather have Marshall, but......
Rp, give Fielding a bit of credit mate, we all know he's your junior of the city side now, but you can't take it away from him, his penalty save was an easy one admitted, but he can only save it, the second was much better, and the man saved us a point, so go on give us all a smile, and give him some credit.
Fielding is adequate for this level. With keepers unlike any other position, mistakes cause goals and so everyone focuses on negatives rather than positives.
I've voted for O'Leary Why because it's a weird poll, you may as well just say is Frank Fielding worth his place. Hamer not seen much but what I have seen looks dodgy. Let in three against Luton and 4 against Brentford but if Red Robin rates him on those appearances then he's dafter than I first thought. Would of voted Frankie because he's our number one and O'Leary is a very young keeper, but I like to **** up JGF stats
Fielding. Got his faults, but I like him. Thought we had a steal when we got Hamer after seeing him on Match if the day for Leicester, but got to say,I have been disappointed in him.
To be fair to him he has not been given a fair crack of the whip. And the same can be said of cox. Brings players in, but don't play them, i thought he said he will only bring players in that would improve the current team.
As the third string O 'Leary has had experience on the bench a couple of times and is an academy product, would be nice to see him on the bench when we are winning by 3 or 4 goals with 10 mins left and nothing to lose to get the full expeirience of "being out there" it is easier for outfield players as they have the advantage of others that can possibly cover an error! Hamer, he didn't set the world on fire when he covered for Frankie, but he did his job in the main.... Fielding our number 1 and barring injury or a disasterous run of form likely to be first on the sheet for the rest of the season, unless we get to a point where playoff's or relegation cease to be instrumental to our destiny. You can look at " bring players in that would improve the current team" as just that current team, team is the players that go on the sheet on matchday...and Hamer and Cox are on there.
Can we have the option of a brand new (and better) keeper please ? Sorry, and despite the penalty save, I still have no faith in Fielding.
sorry ANGELIC I didn't think of that one, a better one would always be welcome of course .. You have to wonder throughout the 4 divisions how many fans actually like/ have faith in their goal keeper !
Since the days of Mike Gibson I've rarely had a lot of faith in our keepers. Cashley was brave but short, and was actually a full back John Shaw and Mike Mahoney and Len Bond were all ok Quite liked Keith Welch but he was dodgy under pressure Keith Waugh was alright Steve Phillips was hugely over rated IMO. Good shot stopper but didn't command his area at all. Basso was also a good keeper most of the time, had a great rapport with the fans, and was probably the best since Gibson all round. Shame that it was something else GJ probably spoiled.
