Lots of stuff on here about the inequities of the football world and how we as the supposed lower life form must continue to struggle while those in the upper stratosphere go on their own sweet way with never a thought about the grass roots of the game. They are more than happy to lure young prospects to their world without blinking an eye and yet are prepared to wander down their riches filled roads treading on the road kill that teams like Bristol City throw in their way.

Looking at today's signing of Fernandinho for 30 million is a good case in point and just think what we could do with that kind of transfer revenue, and I ask what kind of future is there for teams like ours when the rich are prepared to spend this kind of moolah on foreign players and you rarely hear that kind of money for home grown talent. The report on football salaries published today will only highlight the vast gap between us and them and it appears nobody will act on the recommendations.

    Cruel world really isn't it?

As long as the teams in the EPL are OK then thats all that matters to them I had some hopes a few years back that if enough 'smaller' sides reached the top tier they might force a few changes through but as soon as they got there they just stuck their noses in the trough and forgot their roots.

I remember thinking a few years ago (could be as many as 20) that American sport such as Football (wish they would think of a proper name) and basketball were ridiculous due to the really high money that was involved in wages etc. Now it's happened here, next will be the franchises and moving of teams to different locations. Whoops MK Dons, Man Utd, Man City etc. perhaps that has already happened.
Am I stupid in quite liking the fact that my team still has a little bit of the community aspect to it? Do Man Utd. City, Arsenal etc have fans forums or a chairman that meets fans in a pub at away games.
Bring back the good old days. terraces, muddy pitches, meeting players in the pub (before and after the game) players that had something invested in the club.
Ok now off to polish my rose tinted glasses.

Football has changed massively since I was a kid in the 1960's.

In some respects it's better. The stadiums are safer and more comfortable and the players have seen their wealth increase 10000 fold

The downside has been an army of cheap and averagely talented foreigners joining the English game.
Too many foreign owners who don't know or care about the history of heritage of the play-thing they now own (Cardiff and Blackburn spring to mind)
People like Mike Ashley who is only in it for the money and who would sell his own Mother for a few quid
The diving, cheating, money grabbing and general bad behaviour of players who think that being on £200k a week makes them above the law
Sky TV which has taken away the excitement of watching football live on TV

    All sad, very very sad

Sky has not taken away the excitement of watching live football just now a days kids spend all day in front of computer consols and only move to eat sleep and watch TV it was different a few years back when we went to watch our local teams and could be sure of being home before there was any football on the telly. Now if you support a club like Exeter or Torquay for example you have to decide do you go and watch them on a rainy day or stay at home and watch a game kicking off at 5.30pm involving a couple of premiership teams.

In addition to which in years gone by fathers took their kids to watch their local teams but now the kids stay at home deciding which Premiership club gets their loyalty this year, there is a family with 3 kids just down the road from me where the kids have had Barcelona, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd and Man City shirts, that I can remember but I'm sure there was another club in there somewhere just remembered when I first moved in the oldest kid wore a Liverpool shirt, in the 10 years that I have lived there never once seen one of them in a Blackpool shirt even though their father is a Blackpool fan(you have to remember I currently live in Blackpool).

One thing I do agree with is the diving and cheating that has increased dramatically over the last 10-15 years it used to be an odd event I remember Franny Lee developing the tripping himself in the penalty box to get penalties now almost everyone does it some far more that others, even those with the skills not to need to do it, Suarez at Liverpool is a prime example.

The influx of foreign owners has been detrimental to football in this country what happens to those clubs when the circus moves on to say Spain probably an almighty crash and some of the biggest clubs in this country are going to really struggle and some of the others as well. Unless something is done soon I agree we might see franchising in this country Bristol Rovers become Bristol Pirates then move to Chippenham and become the Chippenham Pirates I can almost foresee the next change in the premiership Cardiff City being renamed Malasian Dragons or some such.

Until some people at our FA decide to grow some balls then the foreign owners in the EPL will continue to be the tail that wags the dog, and TV money will continue to be the only thing that matters.

And me. Very remiss of me to overlook such a bunch of low lifes !!

Having said that, they go quite well with some of the games less savoury characters such as John Terry, El Haji Djouf and others who frankly fail to be human beings let alone footballers !

Cashley Cole and Mr Goodwillie and those 'Brighton footballers' probably fall into this catagory as well their behavoir might not have been criminal in the legal sense but it was pretty damn disgusting.

Calm down guys especially wize because I had no intention of setting up a heart attack type thread. But you what he is absolutely spot on with his condemnation of agents and have you noticed they now tend to bring up statements like their player is ready to move to Manchester United or something in that vein.

Who the hell do these leeches think they are when they put potential glory in the minds of young players, and I reckon it is solely down to the players as to where he wants to ply his trade. The role of these bloodsuckers is ruining our game and it's time they were removed from the game and I think if you look back at our history the Nicky Maynard saga was somewhat overhyped by his agent.

Until such time as the Premier League takes the bull by the horns then we minnows have no chance to remove this disease that pervades the sport, because let's face it the game, and everything about it, is controlled by those at the top.
