Here's the squad for Team GB Squad: J Allen (Swansea), C Bellamy (Liverpool), R Bertrand (Chelsea), J Butland (Birmingham), S Caulker (Tottenham), T Cleverley (Manchester United), J Cork (Southampton), C Dawson (West Brom), R Giggs (Manchester United), A Ramsey (Arsenal), M Richards (Manchester City), D Rose (Tottenham), S Sinclair (Swansea), M Sordell (Bolton), J Steele (Middlesbrough), D Sturridge (Chelsea), N Taylor (Swansea), J Tomkins (West Ham) lets hope team gb win gold with 3 swansea players in the team all knackered for the first game of the new season
From BBC website: "Daniel Sturridge is being treated for viral meningitis but is "optimistic" about playing for Team GB at London 2012." That's one down already!
I can only assume that the Scottish FA won't sanction participation and so players would jeopardise their international prospects. Pearce can only have ignored them for this reason. Looking forward to a GB team on principle regardless.
I think they had to be willing in order for this to be a UK team, same as Northern Ireland. Pearce obviously doesn't rate any of their youngsters.
I have tickets to a game at Wembley (a semi final) and I think after looking at the draw I need GB is finish 2nd in their group to go into the half of the draw that I have a ticket for. God knows how likely/unlikely this is!
Correct that Scotland must have agreed for this to be team "GB" and their players are just rubbish. However, N. IRL have no involvement or else it would be team "UK" would it not?
Not a "lover" of Beckham but I feel the team and the excitement level has been diminished somewhat by his exclusion. I would have bought a ticket for an England game just to see him play again but not particularly bothered now. Daft I know but not really excited by it all.
A bender like Beckham? Great player in his day and he seems like an honest decent bloke but I can kinda see why Pearce didn't include him. The circus that would surround him might consume the whole setup. All the media and stalkers would be hanging off his coat-tails and it might upset the Team's concentration. Its time Becks wound up his game and joined the movie circuit like Vinnie Jones.
Hard to guess what Pearce's selection process was, Scotland have some good young players who merited selection and one or two in the squad would have helped make the team more inclusive, same goes for Northern Ireland. I suppose he knows most of the English players from his Under 21 set-up but I would have expected all four countries to be represented. Whilst I agree Beckham is past his best his professionalism is unquestioned and it smacks of sour grapes Pearce's response on that subject. In comparison to the South American and Spanish squads we don't have much chance anyway added to Pearce's lack of tactical nous...
