Anyone spending time or merely walking through central Norwich last summer can't have failed to notice these brightly painted 'monsters' all over the place. I already knew they'd raised an incredible £370k for Break charity when sold off at auction, but the EDP has today released more details about how successful they actually were to the city http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news...f_the_gogodragons_effect_on_norwich_1_4420365
Yes Cromer. I'd just read that story myself. I know my daughter and family had a great time finding them all, especially the ones not near the city centre.
I thought it was a great event, as was the Go Go Gorillas 2 years before. I managed to photograph about two-thirds of them in a couple of visits. Great advert for the City and for a very good cause. Well done to everyone concerned.
I love these things. I went around for the Gorillas. Was fantastic. A reason to go into the city, a reason to take photos of our beautiful city. Also, some were very artistic, funny or clever. Felt an improvement on the Elephants. We also went round the Dragons. I didn't think the art and humor was as good as the gorillas, BUT they were spread better. The gf and I walked down roads and saw areas we have never walked before. I loved that, Always up for that, also found loads of pubs and restaurants I've never heard of. Brilliant. We went to Bury St Edmunds, and they had a kind of similar thing with Wolves. We went round all of them, but they were way too sparse, and they were all very arty farty. It was a bit of a disappointment. Still though, a reason to got there, and reaseon to walk around all areas of town, and we still went for a lunch and a dinner. I love the idea to attract people in to the town/city, but also to inspire people to be artistic and clever when designing these beasts. The charity element is a massive bonus on top of an already good thing. I hope there is a new one next year.
I went down to Bristol in August for 'Shaun the Sheep' display and some of the artwork was brilliant.
Just read the news page. Possibly return 2018. That's good it's coming back.Wonder what the next will be.
I already contacted the organisers to say how brilliant the dragons were ( they already knew) and to ask what theme was planned for the next event. We've had gogo elephants, gogo gorillas and most recently gogo dragons. I suggested - to get the fathers equally involved, hows about gogo dancers (I'm thinking Pan's People, Legs & Co, Hot Gossip ...you get the picture. But hey ho, I'm just a "child", so what do I know )
Drive by Truckers had a great album out a 4 years ago called "Go Go Boots". That wouldn't be a bad shout actually
