MK DONS are in the hunt to end Nyron Nosworthy’s Sunderland misery.

Sunderland have made no secret of their attempts to offload Nosworthy and fellow unwanted defender Matt Kilgallon, with the duo surplus-to-requirements at the Stadium of Light.

But the Black Cats have not been blessed with a queue of admirers for the pair despite both being proven performers in the Championship.

League One high-fliers MK Dons have made an enquiry over a loan move for Nosworthy though as rookie boss Karl Robinson looks to inject some experience into his side.

The Dons are also bidding to land out-of-favour Sheffield Wednesday frontman Clinton Morrison, and Nosworthy undoubtedly fits the bill as a seasoned centre-half easily capable of handling the demands of the third tier.

The dilemma for Sunderland is that the Dons would only be able to pay a fraction of Nosworthy’s wages, with the 30-year-old in the final year of his contract on Wearside.

Nosworthy’s earnings are not on a par with out on-loan Sunderland defender George McCartney, whose salary is being paid in full by West Ham, although the former Gillingham man is still on a healthy deal.

But with no one else bidding to land Nosworthy, Sunderland may decide that MK Dons’ offer is better than nothing.

Nosworthy has not played for Sunderland’s first team since January 2010 and has no future on Wearside.

Ipswich were rumoured to be interested in Nosworthy during the summer, but nothing has materialised and Tractor Boys boss Paul Jewell has since signed former Sunderland defender Danny Collins on loan.

Neither have there been any firm moves for Kilgallon, despite persistent speculation linking him with Birmingham City.

Nosworthy and Kilgallon, who has two years left to run on his contract, have continued to train professionally with Sunderland since returning from last season’s loan spells at Sheffield United and Doncaster respectively.

Together with Argentine defender Marcos Angeleri, they are the last of the players Steve Bruce is looking to ship out.

Bruce has already managed to offload McCartney and Cristian Riveros this summer, which has reduced the burden on the Black Cats’ wage bill.

That has provided a boost to Bruce’s transfer funds, with McCartney potentially set to join West Ham on a permanent deal next summer if Sam Allardyce’s side achieve a quick return to the Premier League this season.

Teams will wait until the last minute to get a better deal. Shame for both as careers are concerned, especially Kilgallon. I think we have messed him around.
