Although The Gurkha is top rated just 1lb above Galileo Gold, a more interesting comparison is their respective ratings on a sound surface

Galileo Gold ran to his highest figure on good ground (at Newmarket) with an adjusted rating of 133 whilst The Gurkha achieved his highest rating of 132+ on good ground at Deauville. Nothing else gets close to that on good ground (or firmer) but, should the ground soften up, Toormore and Ribchester have both achieved 128 on good to soft. However both the top 2 have achieved higher ratings on soft (130). So it will be surprising if anything gets past the top 2, unless one or both run below form. These 2 are virtually equally superior to the rest, regardless of ground.

Some say The Gurkha was unlucky when beaten by Galileo Gold. If we take that into consideration and that AOB and RM are both in form, he might just shade it.

Overlooked the fact that GG has run (and won) on the track. Should be very very close. What odds for a photo?
