77* today in NYC, 8* above the old record and 30* above normal. Who says global warming is not happening? :-D
The cows must be letting rip more often... http://www.todayifoundout.com/index...ally-significantly-contribute-global-warming/
I thought global warming was a natural phenomena and goes in a cyclical pattern. Beth will probably put us right. I do remember Ken Livingstone standing at Heathrow Airport on the hottest day of the year about ten years ago commenting on that this is the hottest day on record for over a 100 years and blaming it on cars. The reporter wasn't savvy enough to ask how come cars weren't the norm back then and indeed neither were aeroplanes. So what caused it back in 1906?
Ignore the highs and lows Nines and look at the averages over time. I think it' s fairly evident that human activity has forced these up and the consequences could be very bad - for humans - in the coming years. The planet will look after itself and has much more time than we do. However, you are completely correct in saying natural changes in climate have been much more extreme and will be sometime in the future. Apparently we are in a little gap between Ice Ages at the moment. So we are just doing to ourselves what nature would do to us at some stage anyway. If we can't stop ourselves killing each other and eating too much sugar, I think the chances of us making the sacrifices required to change the trajectory are zero. Science may save us, if we are lucky. It probably won't wipe us out (which is of course our inevitable destiny, just like all species) but I think there could be far fewer of us with most living in a much more primitive way in a few decades time. The stress caused by the current population movement in the Middle East and Africa will be nothing compared to the migration this will cause. Bangladesh, for example, may be mostly under water, leaving the current 156m inhabitants little choice but to get on their bikes. And that's just one country. Not that I care much, I don't think we will see the worst impact in my lifetime. It will certainly impact on my kids though unless something genuinely radical happens, and sadly I really hope I don't have grandkids. Our generation may be the luckiest in history, the subsequent ones won't be, poor sods, blameless as they are.
Does anyone know the Ny forecast for in 2 weeks time? Will be there then, hoping for dry moderate weather
Nice evaluation. Yes, I'm sure one way or another, the weather conditions will sought out the population ( a market correction as they say ) and that we will manage to rid ourselves from the earth, either by food ( sugar ) and or war. Mrs Aussie works in a chemist and has been studying the effects of sugar in people's diets. Quite frightening really. Probably fair to say that nearly everything we eat is loaded with sugar. Example .......... The most popular juice bar drinks that we folks throw down when we go out to the shopping centre or alike, contain frightening levels of sugar. Most nice / pleasant tasting drinks are the culprits. If you really want a decent juice drink to feel good about, they are normally a lot less pleasant in taste ( more vegetables, less sweet fruit ) so they tend not to sell them on the favourites board. I've notice people from various western countries like Oz and including, lose their necks ( their chins form straight from their chest / shoulders ) and have grown more portly. Surely a lot to do with their diets ( takeaway ) and the amount of sugar and trans fats in them. Trans fats are a real killer. It really changes how your body functions, causing major build up / blockage of arteries, etc. I put the change of eating habits over the past 30 years down to both the growth of 'the takeaway' market and the change in generations. No doubt, most baby boomers ( self ) will say that their mums and dads put food on the table each and every night, in a very modest form. Since then possibly, our generation cooked less then theirs and that the generations after us, cooked a lot less again .......... and or really don't want to / can't cook, couldn't be arsed to cook because takeaway is quicker, tastier, less hassle, etc. I must be honest, the older I'm getting, the more particular I am with what I eat and both my Mrs Aussie and I have noticed we eats much less each day. I not perfect but try to find a balance. I've cut out most crap .............. with the exception of course of my once a week sponge of the bourbon bottle. Sorry to stray off target but felt one lead onto the other.
Well, that's cheered me up no end. I do have a grandchild Stan, and the thought of how he and his world might fare in the future is sorely depressing.
It's very interesting Aussie. I am undergoing a 24 hour blood pressure test at the request of my GP as we speak/write. Had an interesting health check a month ago which has led to some small changes in habits. Apart from a disastrous but great fun weekend in the company of knaves and rogues, I have been very good at avoiding salt, reducing booze (none for at least 2 days a week, a glass of wine rather than the usual 3), eating loads of fruit instead of bread and biscuits, cooking fresh food, drinking lots of water. I haven't drunk fizzy pop, fruit juices or smoothies, all heavily loaded with sugar, for years since I had kidney stones and my consultant advised best to avoid - along with spirits, sadly, I used to like a single malt. Net result I have lost half a stone, all from the gut, without trying to and I'm feeling pretty good. By looking at labels you realise how dodgy all pre prepared food is, even packaged sandwiches. Takeaways/ fast food now scare me. Still relaxed enough for decent meals out, but I have developed a sensitivity to salt which tells me restaurants, even good ones, use far too much of it. But it's all a bit **** really. You spend years working hard and bringing up kids with the promise of continuous fine dining accompanied by exquisite wines to look forward to, get within touching distance of the promised land and your body won't let you do it.
Sorry mate. As I say, science might save us, but I don't think a change of collective behaviour or self control is to be relied on.
Yep in France the same I have been in the 3 worse storms so far in my life in the last 2 years. Hailstones in August and floods that took five people from the village and 25 horses. 2 day later it was back to 39c I had 24c in Roquebrun two weeks ago at lunchtime (12 until 4) and then 10c the next day. Left yesterday in a downpour that would stop the UK from working at all and today my neighbour says its hot again. We will have to adapt but this stuff scares the **** out of me … In the last year i have seen lighting take out 2 power towers across the valley
That's the American way Durbar. And that's what I'll get if the GP thinks I need one. But I'd rather control it without medication if possible.
If it's warmer we need less gas/ electricity to keep warm...that saves energy and less solution.....problem.solved!
Man's knowledge has disrupted the natural cycle of the planet with the results plain for all to see. Another 50 years of 'development' like the past 50 years should just about do for this planet. Fortunately, I won't be around but today's new generation faces an awful future...
That's the irony Sooper, the planet will survive and recover when man has vanished. It is mankind that will make living intolerable for mankind; the planet will survive it and whatever comes afterwards.
Yeah, that's what makes me laugh when the "Greens" go on bleating about saving the planet. When it is actually all about saving mankind; but if that was their main message, that would sound selfish, and not "Green" !!! Imagine banners with "SAVE ME", not quite the same as "SAVE OUR PLANET"
