According to the Chronicle NUFC are considering an application from Glenn Hoddle for the position of Head Coach.

Managerial record not great, supposedly an excellent coach though. Comes with baggage and has been out of the game for a goodly while so I'm not sure if this would be a good move. It's not a Dowie, O'Leary, Brown, Jewell, Curbishley type of name though and I guess we are beggars these days so probably can't really be choosers...

I'd probably settle for him, rather than risk an appointment of Carver, Curbishley, Warnock et al. Bit of a gamble like. Been out the game for a while but surely could motivate folk.

I thought he was a First Team Coach at QPR, lined up for when 'Arry' goes.

Wouldn't worry about that, he's 66/1. Garde is favourite with all the bookies now.

As I said on the other thread, absolutely no to anybody who's been out of the game for a prolonged period of time as manager. The tactics, the science, it evolves quickly and leaves dinosaurs behind.

"Not as bad as some options" doesn't make it a good option <ok>

You really are having a ****ing laugh, Hoddle hasn't even updated his hair style let alone his management credentials, he is a godawful twonk as a pundit, he is a museum piece, "Look daddy the mad ex England Manager".

In the Premier League. 8 and a half years since he resigned from Wolves.

Aye, bookmakers odds for a 'next manager' market like this one are a great guide. How many times has one name or another come in and gone out odds-wise? Journos make a fortune out of this sort of situation putting out 'rumours'.

Great manager and coach. Has stayed involved in the game throughout the period out of the game with his coaching schools, and more latterly with QPR. I have a lot of time for him and still feel his treatment by England was shabby as ****.

However there is that nagging doubt about not having actually managed. Plus do we really need the ****ing fanfare that will surround him media wise?

**** it what am I talking about, with the likely out of work knackers that Ashley will be currently assessing, Hoddle would be akin to a football god. I'd take him.

Garde is a funny one. People don't want Hoddle who is actually coaching in this country, understands the game here and has significant managerial experience - most of it very successful. Yet they do want Garde who spent 3 years here as a player, made about 30 odd appearances and has had one job managing one of Frances big 4, working good budgets, with a reasonable amount of success (one double I think) and has been doing **** all for 6 months. He might be alright, he might not. I can't see the advantage of appointing him ahead of someone like Howe? Apart from us wanting to plunder the French league for a load of ill suited B, C and D internationals.

I wouldn't actually be that against giving him a go. Don't know why but got a feeling it would work out better than we thought. Also has history of working with young players which can't be a bad thing.

I rate Glen Hoddle as a thinking pundit, who understands tactics.
He was an immense player, who was actually applauded up here for scoring a cracking goal for Spurs - I digress.
He can coach and he can set up a team with a plan B.
I'd put him in a bracket that Ashley wouldn't touch though - He's got his own views...
