Glen Johnson has welcomed the injection of youth into Liverpool's squad this season – and insists it's the responsibility of the senior players to help them flourish in the first-team set up.

"You have to encourage the young lads. When I first came through, I had people like Stuart Pearce and other big players helping me.

"Raheem is a fantastic player as it is, so if he keeps working hard and doing the right things, he's going to be a great player."

Maybe the senior players should lead by example and put a shift in, Sterling was our best player on the weekend and instead of spouting this nonsense perhaps taking a leaf out of the youngsters book is needed.

I think he means 'actions speak louder than words'.

No he has a point but needs to work harder himself and as NI says action is needed not talk. I can't imagine Sterling looked around at the weekend and took much inspiration from the senior players.

Its an excellent point Luv! At the moment its the new guys and youngsters that are the only ones coming out of the first few games with any dignity(bar Suarez).

Our best players so far this season are Kelly, Sterling and Allen. Kelly must be wondering what he's got to do to keep his place.

Must admit I would love Kelly to get more games because it will certainly help him to adjust when if as expected he moves more central!

Just adding an obligatory 'I agree'.

I think Kelly could very well be the "new" Carragher: if you will forgive the clichéd term.

He isn't about pace but seems to have an intelligence about where to be and what to do. He has experience beyond his years.

Sterling has been brilliant, no explanation needed. Allen has also surpassed all expectations.

Next step down from these three is perhaps Shelvey, he has really impressed me. He has been better than Gerrard this season so far.
