Anyway, all the furore over Lil' Rim has sort of overshadowed the exit of what was, in his prime, the best English RB in the game. Okay, he was always better going forward than defending, but he gained a totally unjustified reputation in the national media 4,5 years back that he simply couldn't defend at all, culminating in some dreadful reports and ratings when playing for England in the 2012 Euros when he was actually our best defender in the tournament. Only when Kyle Walker got his chance and was ****ing abysmal did one or two of the hatchet brigade see their folly. I made no secret that a few years ago I'd have liked him as vice captain, but in all honesty, in this last 18 months his pace (and stamina) has completely gone, and it wasn't really choice to let his contract run down. But good luck for the future Glen, really hope you're a success at Stoke.
I can't bring myself to praise him as I feel that there was simply a lack of effort on his part over the last 2 seasons and maybe further back. If his quality has dropped but the effort still there then fine but to me he looked like he was going through the motions and getting his money. I'm glad he's gone.
I hope he is useless day one. No doubt he will train all preseason the play that one game to prove a point then fall back into old habits For me ever lfc player should have Stoke 6 written up on the dressing room wall and stare at it every day and tear into this lot day one. I will be calling for rodgers head if we don't see that.
Awful footballer who was capable of a few good attacking runs. His attacking play is generally overhyped but he was capable of the occasional special moment. One of the worst defenders I have ever seen, but the last 2 years have taken the biscuit. Bottles challenges, no effort and just a horrible attitude. Yes, he may train hard and remain professional, but I want winners in this team. His persona screams loser as do a lot of our team.
GJ got lazy and complacent. At his peak he was useful in attack, but still ****e in defense. I'm so pleased we didn't crumble and offer him a new contract. thats 90kpw we've freed up on a bench player.
I think Skrtel serves more of a purpose tbh, and where the **** would we have been without him last season considering the collapse of Lovren? Skrtel shouldn't be our first 11 CB but is a capable squad player tbh, and there's only so much change we should go through each summer.
It's the combination that we lack, a pairing that suit each other and that can communicate and work together.
Really?! You're on here posting about Glen Wrongson at 1 am Think you've got problems, big problems, or an obsession with Stoke's premiere, marquee, superstar, new signing
And no combination seems to work when Skrtel is in it. The one constant in our underperforming defence since Rafa left.
Both happy and sad that he's gone. Going to miss his math quiz's on the team coach but won't miss having to watch him play ahead of me #managerspet
I think you'll find the Skrtel Agger Axis was pretty formidable in its day. Thereby nullifying you're incorrect statement
and its nothign to do with hodgson, dalglish and rodgers then... nothing to do with very variable players around like kyriakos just to name one... no its all skertls fault.
Was it? Under Rafa, maybe but it's another example of a quality defender carrying Skrtel again. And was that in a Rafa side which had Alonso and Mascherano holding, providing further protection? Now if you look POST Rafa, where we have been poor defensively, Skrtel has been a constant.
Not all his fault, but since we put the likes of Skrtel, Johnson, Enrique, Lucas in the defensive set up, we've been poor.
Yep, in 09/10 - coincidentally, these players became regulars and we became poor. The previous few seasons where we had Agger, Hyypia, Aurelio, Arbeloa etc were quality.
is this the self same season where rafa benetiz went nuts and bought kyrgiakos and aquilani and jonhson for a combined 40mil to replace alonso, abrbeloa and hyppia yeah nothing to do with skertl that.. or lucas..
