It’s been a long time since we’ve had a Glamorgan success to celebrate. What was particularly satisfying is that they did so with the team that got them to the Final - they resisted the temptation to play any of the 5 players who had been away playing in The Hundred, especially since Durham selected 2 returnees
I think the problem is now that good honest tournaments like this 50 over one sayer and pushed to the back burner in favour of all the new forms. I didn’t even know they were in a final or that they still had these tournaments till I switched it on and saw it on sky, why was it not played at Lords, like playing the da cup final at the city ground.
The 100 has pushed the 50 over to the back burner. The 100 final is at Lord's today. It was nonsense scheduling, Glam didn't know they were in the knockout stage till the end of last week. They played their semifinal on Monday and the Final on Thursday. The only good news is that it gave counties the opportunity to play young players to fill the spaces of players who were in the 100 squads. As Taff said full credit to Glam for sticking with the team that got them to the final.
I struggled to find anything about Glamorgan cricket on Wales on line before the hundred started. Not sure if they would have even mentioned it.
I haven’t been that impressed with the 100 to be honest. If they are going to do it out in a window of no other cricket, when people purchased tickets early I bet they didn’t know half the players weren’t going to be there. It needs the best from around the world to make it a massive spectacle, I thought this years was ok but not as exciting as it might have been, without England’s top players, plus Australians. Could have been fantastic, great idea badly timed and implemented
