If they fail they will turn to West Ham Unitedâs Robert Green, who is out of contract next month. If Green leaves then West Ham, who secured an immediate return to the Premier League with Saturdayâs play-off victory over Blackpool, are likely to move for either Blackburn Roversâ Paul Robinson or Boltonâs Jussi Jaaskelainen, who have both previously worked with manager Sam Allardyce. Sunderland are also believed to be interested in Green, who is expected to leave Upton Park but will hold fresh talks with the club over a new deal. QPR manager Mark Hughes has identified Given as one of his key targets this summer with the likelihood being that Paddy Kenny, his current first-choice goalkeeper, will leave to be reunited at Leeds United with former manager Neil Warnock. The bond between Hughes and Given is also strong with the manager having signed the 36-year-old Republic of Ireland international for Manchester City from Newcastle United in early 2009. Given was one of several City players angered by Hughesâ sacking later that year. QPR, having narrowly avoided relegation this month, are to undergo a huge rebuilding of the first-team squad this summer. Captain Joey Barton, who faces a lengthy ban for his behaviour in the final Premier League match of the season when he was sent off against City, is likely to be asked to leave the club. Given signed a five-year contract at Villa, for a fee of £3.5 million, only last summer but with the club uncertain as to who will be the manager next season after a hugely disappointing campaign and with doubts over the ambitions of owner Randy Lerner, QPR are considering making an offer. Villa are understood to have a four-strong short-list to succeed Alex McLeish, who was sacked after the club only narrowly avoided relegation. It is headed by Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, the coach of Norwegian club Molde, Norwich Cityâs Paul Lambert, Wigan Athleticâs Roberto Martinez and Villa reserve team coach Kevin MacDonald, who was interviewed last week. However, there are deep concerns over the scale of investment planned this summer by Lerner while QPR are pushing ahead with a transfer policy to try to establish themselves in the Premier League and are promising Hughes the funds to compete. A permanent deal for on-loan midfielder Samba Diakaé is being discussed with new deals having been agreed with Kieron Dyer, who has agreed a one-year extension, Jamie Mackie, Clint Hill, Akos Buzsaky and reserve goalkeeper Radek Cerny. QPR have also released eight out-of-contract players: Patrick Agyemang, Gary Borrowdale, Lee Cook, Danny Gabbidon, Fitz Hall, Peter Ramage, Danny ****tu and Rowan Vine. West Ham are also drawing up their plans for the Premier League and would be interested in re-signing former midfielder Joe Cole â but only if Liverpool hugely subsidise his wages, of at least £90,000 a week, as they have done at Lille. Cole is also attracting interest from big-spending Paris St-Germain. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/queens-park-rangers/9281013/Queens-Park-Rangers-target-new-goalkeeper-with-Shay-Given-and-Robert-Green-top-of-their-list.html

This reads the same as a 'no go' imo. Give me Gordon and I'll be happy.
He is a top class goalkeeper, far better than Gordon but he is 36 years old. I think we should be looking at an up and coming young man and have Raddy work with him every day.
YES PLEASE!! A top quality keeper. Miles better than the rest we've been linked with. And as Brad Friedel has shown keepers can remain top class even into their 40's. Plus Ive always liked the guy.
Great shot stopper but, like kenny, he's not a commander of his area. There must be a 6"4' wonder kid out there somewhere.
Sign Given, and a youngster floating around the international u21/U18's, and get Cerny and Given working with him.
Couldn't put it better Watford - he's a different class to most in the league (shoulder injuries withstanding). I've never figured out why any club has ever let him go (except perhaps City because Hart is world class).
I'd take him at 36 - I still think he's worth a good few points per season in terms of pure shot stopping.
Well, this is pointless until Flyer gets his stats out and gives him the seal of approval ( or otherwise)
21/05/2012 by David McIntyre QPR are planning to make Aston Villa an offer for goalkeeper Shay Given. The Republic of Ireland stalwart, 36, played under Râs boss Mark Hughes at Manchester City. Given has four years of his Villa contract left to run but Rangers believe they may be able to take him to Loftus Road this summer. He is one of a number of keepers they have identified as a possible signing. Last season the club also made enquiries about Birminghamâs England Under-21 international Jack Butland. The writing is on the wall for Paddy Kenny, who is entering the final year of his QPR contract and has not been approached about a new deal since Hughes took over as manager. http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/hughes-to-make-villa-an8-offer-for52-given/?
I guess they must still believe there's life left in him as Villa gave him a five year deal at aged 35. In Sparky I trust.
Poor old Paddy. He was enraged a couple of times in the Irish squad when his chance to play came up but Given showed up half injured for meaningless friendlies and got in ahead of him. He eventually retired from Int football and now Given might be coming in to replace him again!
given would be worth an extra 10 points a season to us plus give the back 4 a boost of confidence that hes there. having said that at 36 hes not a long term solution. I'd give him 2-3 year deal max.
