No doubt he was world class.., but I was watching the spain game tonight.. and i jsut thought how amazing Shay given was.. and how consistantly brilliant he has been over his career..
You got that from tonight? P.S All jokes aside I've always rated Given, fantastic keeper of the Prem era, don't quite think he is in Shilton's class though
Can anyone, at any shay given time, manage to get the spelling of the title of their new thread correct..? It seems to be impossible.
Given has been terrible in the euro's so far, something I wasn't expecting. I've never seen Shilton play but I heard that he was an amazing GK,in fact in was the best GK ever to grace the beautiful game according to him .
Peter Shilton played 125 times for England and during his earlier career had to share the spot because of a "nice" England manager who wanted to share the position. This gave Ray Clemence 63 caps. Shilts could have won 188 caps if he'd been given those. That's how good he was.
Yes and at a time when to be the England goalkeeper was an accolade! There are very few keepers who are or have been better than Shilton. The legendary Gordon Banks would clearly be in the running from England, but after that you'd need to look abroad. Chelsea's keeper isn't bad and if he wants a new challenge could displace Super Kelv (only technically, not in our affections, of course).
For the greater part of those caps Shilton was playing for us! Given has not had the best of tournaments but is still a good keeper. Not though, in Shilton's class in my opinion.
Shilton, although I'm still upset that he got beat in the air by 5ft short marardona, having said that, Given did score a cracking headed goal against Croatia the other night !
