He scored twice for the U21s against Swansea this afternoon so surely he is ready for a start against Blackpool?
Erm... Been saying that for weeks Mr Wark's tache. Then again, MM and TC watch them in training every day so what does anyone else know
So he scores 2 goals in a reserve game (by the way he's been banging in a ridiculous volume of goals for years) and he now is worthy of a plCe ahead of those idiots already playing. that sir is a u turn
I think every Town fan who has witnessed Noubles performances from the bench this season think it is high time Marriot was given a chance, if not a start at least replace Nouble on the bench.
I can't see how Nouble can continue to be picked. I mean Mick went mental when JET didn't perform but was JET ever as bad as Nouble??
All I can say is that Rhodes used to bang them in in the reserves and has proved himself at a higher level so there's no reason why Jack can't do the same. A natural goal scorer is a natural goal scorer regardless.
In football in general there has been a lot made of the lack of qaulity in the set up outside the first teams for a few years now. A lot of clubs dont put much effort or emphasis into their youth development and reserves. A few teams dont even bother having a youth set up at all. Especially lower down the league pyramid where money is a lot tighter. As I dont know how all the other teams go then Im not convinced that Marriott is our answer but he certainly seems to be making a difference for us so we may as well see what he can do I wouldnt say give him a start. That is asking a lot of a young lad but he should be on the bench and given 20 minutes for 3 or 4 games to see how he adjusts. Obviously if he hits the ground running then put him in from the start but he has to adjust for life in the first team. I would rather see him on the bench then Nouble (surely he needs to go out on loan) and we now seem to have Edwards, Hewitt & Mings on the bench. Surely you dont need the 3 of them. So for me we can easily change things around to give us more options.
I wonder who the bitch is in the McCarthy / Nouble relationship, 'cause there is no way Nouble is picked for his football skills!!!
There is no debate to be had. He should have been coming off the bench weeks ago. We had Kieron Dyer starting games at 16 and Wickham at 17 or 18. if you're good enough, you're old enough. Frankly if you're Hewitt's age and you can't get into the team then you are probably not going to cut it (unless your manager's a plonker for leaving you out).
Whilst I wouldn't be adverse to Marriott gettng a start I don't see the strikers as being at the heart of our problems. What we all know is that we need more creative play from the midfield to provide better service and that isn't going to come from the present defense minded set up.
Think it would be very foolish to play him from the start, he needs several substitute appearances, before he can be considered to be the real thing, a natural goalscorer can only claim this title, when he does it regularly in first class matches, reserve and youth football don't count, not saying he wouldn't be successful in the first team, but things have to be put in perspective. Cast your mind back to the Roy Keane era, we had a reserve team striker, whose name escapes me, heralded by many at the club as the most natural finisher at the club, didn't make it, did he, lord knows where he is now. Think some people might watch reserve or youth football, see a player scoring for fun, and think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread, doesn't always work like that the gulf between youth and reserve football, up to the first team is enormous, this Marriott chap, might or might not make it
Marriott on the bench ahead of Nouble, that is all we are asking. Nouble has not made any difference when introduced so give the boy a go.! I agree that there is not much wrong with our front two, afterall they are feeding off scraps most of the time.!
To be fair to Taylor when we came on he got stuck straight in. That's what we need more of, and it's more likely to come from a hungry 19 year old.
