Just like when Lucas came to Liverpool no one gave him much respect, but now we are all warming up to him.. Andy Carroll is going to come good too.He played very well today and he contributed to the two Liverpool goals. Please give him a break.
He is 6 ft 3" and one of the best headers of a ball in Europe, the quality of the crosses, from wide positions is poor, feel sorry for him sometimes. Still young and will keep improving, he can and should do better. Think in a few years he will be an England regular and hopefully doing the business for LFC.
Looked a lot better after we changed our shape and he was not so isolated. Getting better but still not good enough, yet.
Was gonna post a similar thread but more along the lines of "Carroll's best game for us." He was exactly what I thoughtwe'd bought today. We bullied the centre-backs, won loads in the air, held the ball up well and had a couple of good chances. Also he tracked back and put in bags of effort. Good game Andy, good game.
If he puts effort in and falls short then i'll have nothing against him. This hasent always been the case though. Hopefully he has turned a page today although i'm not convinced to be honest.
Put it into perspective - Carroll played well compared to his previous performances. In general, he was still useless. But having said that, everyone wants to lump it up to him, or cross from deep which is useless. Start playing to his feet so he can develop his game with the ball on the ground. Yes, we need to play to his strengths but longs balls and deep crossing is just forcing the issue.
He seriously lacked support over and over today. There were times when he was getting the ball, holding it up well, but then having to pass it back into the Liverpool half because no one was running forward in support of him.
Problem is, in Kenny's mind that isn't a fully fit side. In his mind, it's 4-2-3-1 with Adam and Gerrard/Hendo Holding, Downing left, Hendo/Gerrard behind the striker (Carroll) and Suarez right. No Bellamy for some peculiar reason.
I've been a big critic of Carroll and his effort (or lack of) in the last few months however anyone who manages to criticise today's performance from him was clearly watching another game to me. I hope he keeps building on this and gives kenny selection problems when Suarez comes back on who he should actually start and in what formation.
