http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/how-wenger-halted-chelseas-giroud-move-199140.html There is another coach that I met and thatâs Mark Hughes, the manager of Queens Park Rangers, where he has a big project. How I would love to see the details of the project.
"Arsenal, and not QPR, is one of three or four biggest clubs in England. Not yet, anyway," said Giroud. Not yet, but they're working on it!
"We exchanged text messages, and he made me realise by SMS he really wanted me." Mark just didn't romance him enough!!! Footballers dating SMS service ?
Good to see the club are really going places and its proof we did try to sign him. They must be huge plans if he thinks we have a chance at being in the top 4.
F*ckin'hell Mark! A bunch of roses, a box of Milk Tray, a bottle of Blue Nun and he'd have been putty in your hands...
This is the sort of thing that is getting me SO excited! We are going to get some great signings for sure this summer! The next few years are going to be a hell of a ride!
I recently read on the website that Mark Hughes visited France, Spain, Italy and Germany in the space of 6 days to look at players before the end of the season. That is the sort of commitment and ambition we want to see at this club, and I think we all knew Giroud would not choose us over Champions League football, but the intent to bring in high calibre players is brilliant.
Its exciting to think that we could afford to pay 12 odd million for a player. Are we really at that stage yet?
I am now convinced that Taarabt will stay. Surely he wants to be part of the big project (with the big money that will go with it).
Wouldn't be the first. We all know we've signed players in the past that Paladini's only seen on internet dating sites or at speed-dating sessions.
"But Arsenal, and not QPR, is one of three or four biggest clubs in England. Not yet, anyway. And also I wanted to play Champions League. Not yet.
Giroud wasnt a £12m player, he was a £20-30m player but had a release clause of £12m. But it does mean we had a bid that met the release clause or Hughes wouldnt have been allowed to speak to him. Its fine to break the bank for value for money but i wouldnt want us spending that on any old player.
Great thread, cheers Ciarrai. I'm still pinching myself when I think of how far we've come, and to what the future holds. The QPR family deserve this. We've waited for so long.
Must be quite painful when a professional player currently in the game pretty much outright calls you small fry.
