Reports coming out don't sound good, with some saying he has a broken foot and could be out of action for 3 months. If he is injured long term, then signing a new striker is no longer an issue for debate, but a must.
Could be out for as long as 3 months. Matt Law ‏@Matt_Law_DT 4 mins Updated Giroud story. Fears he could miss as much as 3 months with Arsenal manager Wenger facing striker hunt #afc http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ene-Wenger-back-into-the-transfer-market.html …
Even if Giroud is hypothetically out for 3 months, what do you expect us to realistically bring in? No marquee players will come in as its far too late in the day and only a player of simular calibre will come say a Remy etc. So really I'm hoping Giroud isn't injured for long as getting someone like that would be a waste when we have Walcott and Campbell. Get top quality or stick with what we have.
It's not too late in the day for Di Maria to go to United. We need to use our cash wealth NOW to prevent a disastrous season; we should go all out to sign Cavani.
Demba Ba But I rather get Bony or Remy instead of going with what we got. We still need to see when Walcott is back and make sure he has no set backs. Sanogo is injured now no? we NEED a striker. Ideally Cavani but it wont happen.
We have barely started the year and already got lots of injuries! Giroud, Arteta and Gibbs (smaller but still) Imagine if this happened to the other teams (I think media would go all mad about it): City: Aguero, Fernando and Kolarov Chelsea: Costa, Matic and Luis Liverpool: Sturrige, Gerrard and Morena (or whatever his name is) Everton: Lukaku, Barry, Baines
The only silver lining to this cloud is that it's happened now and not next week after the window closes.
Complete coincidence but these three injuries (Arteta, Giroud, Gibbs) are the three weakest areas of our squad I feel so if this spurs AW into strengthening those three positions then every cloud...
We need two strikers, one as a replacement and one for depth (which we needed before). I would like to see Alessandro Cerci, whom we have been linked with, and maybe a cheaper signing like Remy. These seem realistic. Wenger is so stubborn though.
It won't. At best we'll be able to bring in one new player and considering the time restraints they're unlikely to be any better. All these injuries do are significantly weaken us. If we wanted to strengthen those positions then we needed to have started the ground work weeks ago. Seeing supposed fans of the club ****ing over each other in excitement at their own players being hurt is sickening. Like most I was all for an upgrade on Arteta and Giroud. Unlike most I like both players but am aware in Mikel's situation that there are those who can do a better job and when you're only replacement to your forward are two youths, one of who is injured anyway then you clearly are asking for trouble! I'm guessing we'll see Sanchez up front against Besiktas now which is a huge amount of pressure on a new player. It worked for Chile because they played a system which supported it but we don't so I think he'll struggle again like he did against Everton. Bad times.
AW generally does 99% of his transfer business at 11.45pm on deadline day evening though... he probably loads up the Football Manager database at 11.30pm, runs a search for anyone with a potential ability of 180+, aged 21 and under and then picks the phone up to make the offer. Offer accepted at 11.45pm, contract accepted at 11.55pm, player confirmed at 11.59pm.
True but I'll be surprised if Wenger brings someone in. We've been in this position countless times before and Wenger has chosen to do nothing.
He'll bring someone in only if he has been working on a deal - which you'd think he was even before the injury. It's surely a bit late to start from scratch and get a top striker. Maybe a Remi or Bony or Eto'o only.
Even were that true, how often do we ever bring in more than one last minute addition on TDD? The injuries shaft us. At best, and I shudder to say this, I can see us bringing in the likes of Remy. He may well surprise me and do well but I'd be genuinely stunned. Our fans reaction, by and large, genuinely baffles me. We were so poor in the first half against Everton. Ok in the first 10 minutes or so without being too threatening but then capitulated. Giroud comes on and we completely change and yet people still slate him. He's nowhere near being a world beater but for people to celebrate his injury.... urgh. That's not neccassarily aimed at you Cini, just what I've seen on social media over the last few days.
He was terrible last year though. How about..(in order of preference - top two are unlikely I'll admit) Cavani Falcao Huntelarr Jackson Martinez Benzema Fernando Llorente Benteke
