I do not normally post the behind closed door friendlies on here. However, considering the amount of injuries we have and some suspensions, I thought this might give us some indication of who could be available for Saturday's game at Cheltenham. Good to see left back Joe Carter make his first appearance since his broken leg. Seems as though Jordan Obita has made a recovery from illness. Frampton in action as well. Fish also played and Matt Lawrence failed to deal with a long ball! Also it was noted there was a Gills trialist number nine? http://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/page/Reserves/0,,10416~2657287,00.html Thoughts?...
He got taken off at the 60 minute mark, so probably Hess had seen enough, and we probably won't hear of him again.
There is some more news about the players after that game here...http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kentonline/sport/2012/march/14/gills_players.aspx? It claims Hessy has distanced himself from a front-man (Luke Medley) but no mention on the others who were former Bolton striker Javelin Campbell and the nephew of Chris Samba? Frampton and Fish will be up for selection this Saturday. I wonder what the situation is with left back Joe Carter?
Shame we haven't got another option for left back as really need Jackman in center midfield along with Jack Payne for Saturday as only other realistic option is Ollie Lee, and I'm not overly impressed with him at the moment. Andy Frampton at L/B ?? Fish in as right winger!!!! and move Whelps into center???
i know we have injuries etc and we need to utilise what players we have, but playing matt fish was part of the problem at right back in the first place....jack evans is a much better option and should get that position. andy frampton is not much better at left back, though i would rather see him play there so danny jackman can push into midfield where he belongs ! keep dennis oli on the bench as an impact player when needed heard alex brown played well for us against wycombe XI hope he gets a chance at some stage this season, along with tom brunt and joe carter, can also see bradley dack being involved soon with the first team . saturdays side something like: gazza evans essam king frampton payne whelpdale jackman obita miller/kuffour kedwell subs: hawkes davies brown o.lee kuffour/miller/oli
Would imagine we would keep Joe Carter on despite his injury, we gave another year to a young lad called George Humber who had been out all season with ligament damage so it's obviously in the club's policy to give the injured youngsters time and opportunity to play. How about we try something daring for Saturday, especially playing away at Cheltenham. We don't have width in the squad so how about the following:- Gazzaniga Evans and Jackman as wing backs, right and left respectively. Three centre backs from Essam/King/Frampton/Davies (most likely the first three) Central midfield three of Payne, Whelpdale and Oliver Lee Front two from Kedwell/Oli/Miller/Kuffour Anyone remember the Pulis/Taylor days? We played an identical formation then and it went down a treat. I personally would go with:- Gazzaniga Evans Essam King Frampton Jackman Whelpdale Payne O Lee Kedwell Miller SUBS Hawkes Davies Obita Oli Kuffour
