Well Gills go top after a hard fought 1-0 win against Doncaster. After a dull first half with neither team creating much although Nelson pulled off a great save, Gills came out in the second half with much more purpose and controlled the game although Doncaster also started playing better making a much more entertaining second half. The game changed in favour of Gills when Hessy came on for Houghton on 60 minutes and began getter the ball quicker up field. With Jacksons runs down the wing causing trouble every time he ventured forward and Dack getting more into the game. The goal came when Jackson played a great ball upfield where Dack chased and crossed the ball into the box for the keeper to spill and Hessy running on to the ball and kicking it into the goal although a Doncaster player desperately trying to clear it off the line the linesman flagged to say it had crossed the line GOAL. Norris had a fantastic strike brilliantly saved to almost make it two near the end. With a new back 4 because of injuries of Jackson Loft Ehmer and Garmston playing really well and not conceding shows what a committed and strong squad we have. Three home matches played and 3 wins and no goals conceded. Never would I believe Gills could do that defensively.
Well done Gills - I may not always be pleased by ALL aspects of a game - I must learn to just love the result - especially if it sends us top. ps -gioblues - you are right - the match certainly had issues that made me THINK hard ! (fought, NOT thought is what I think you meant in line 1 of your post )
And the only unbeaten team in L1. Still very early days, but the P word might start getting whispered if we keep this up.
