Gills r safe official. Not a great season but would of taken that when Lovell took over and we were second from bottom. Could finish between 16th to19th. Holy been a big plus after a shaky first season and could leave for a big transfer. Zakurani has been a big plus in defense and we must keep him for next season. Byrne possibly player of season. Eaves and Parker got 20 goals between them b4 fading end of season. O Neill also proved to be a quality right back. Think best we can hope for next season is the same unless Scally spends some money on more quality players
Delighted to finally be safe - I was getting pretty worried given our dreadful recent form. Hopefully Lovell will have the resources to now bring in some of his own players. Will he be any good at signing players though...?
We were 2nd best for a large period of the first half. The 2nd half was a lot better - but ( and in view of the fact that we were not 'safe' ), there was still a couple of players who were not giving anything like 100% - in particular Martin. He seemed to have little or no interest in tracking back -- effort not good enough ! In the first half we could hardly keep the ball- or pass it to one of our own. The quality level was (is) woeful - and we definitely need a 'clear-out.' Having said that, the effort in the 2nd half was reasonable - and Gills probably just about deserved their point ( chiefly on the performance of Reilly, Zakuani, Eaves and Byrne.) A special mention for List's first goal for The Gills -- well done - it was very well taken considering that the Bristol defenders really tried hard to stop the build up in their area. Lastly - a public apology to Steve Lovell. When he took off the very hard-working Eaves and brought on List, I did raise a doubt about the choice ( given that Parker should have been the one replaced ---much earlier ) - I shouted out " Lovell, I hope it bloody works."
