I had an 'interesting' day at Port Vale - but - many of you might have wondered why you couldn't hear Peter Lloyd and Radio Kent provide a live commentary. The answer is Because that will ( for the meantime ) NOT happen. Peter Lloyd WILL continue to provide live commentary - BUT - on Gills Player. You will need to subscribe to this service. Radio Kent will only provide update reports every 15 minutes or so ! So.......... it looks like that this will be another occasion where you'll need to pay-per-view / listen for your football fix. I'm not going to say much on the subject - except that it might encourage a few more 'customers' to go to Priestfield. I feel sorry for those who can't get to matches and depend on Radio Kent ( and you'll remind me that we're already paying for our radio through the BBC TV licence ). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------and now for something a little different. News ( to me, at least ). Mr.Scally has a plan to use technology (currently available), to screen / stream live Gills matches ( away only ), in the Blues Rock Cafe ( to be rebranded as ' The Factory' ). The idea will be expanded ( depending on demand ), to the refreshment area under the Rainham End stand. I see this as a positive move. It wont stop fans who still wish to see the game 'live' - but surely will be popular with fans who can't spend all day travelling many miles - let alone the expense - and the Club should be able to generate decent income from the scheme. I have no idea at what stage this idea currently occupies.
alwaysright - Thanks for sharing positive news with not606 I think this is certainly the first time i've heard about the live screening
It came from a trustworthy source - Peter Lloyd - he said that Mr.Scally was in consultation with Sky regarding the technical side of things. The feeling from PL is that the equipment is available - just needs to be installed. This type of 'situation' is exactly why we need a ground and 'other facilities', e.g a cinema / large conference hall, that can accomodate large numbers for such occasions. The infrastructure at Priestfield is not really good enough - but I would certainly welcome - it tomorrow ( that way I wouldn't have to arrive home at 5am on next Wednesday after going to Bradford ) ( or Blackpool - depending on where the drivers decide to turn off the M1 ).
I'm sure about 10 years ago some tvs that were in the Rainham End food area used to show it live then with the others showing your standard Gilette Soccer Saturday. I'm intrigued as to what will happen with the Blues Rock though.
