I'm obviously not talking about the result - I'll explain later- but first a few words about the game.
Normally when you get beaten 0-5, people would think you've been thrashed. Technically Gills were thrashed - but the score doesn't tell the whole story !

You will have heard about the two awful mistakes by Nelson. I 'accept' that he's done it 4 times already this season - but they don't usually happen - however - they have happened, and it's difficult to play catch-up every time. These are individual errors from one player - which can and should be eliminated - so I expect no more. Nelson slightly redeemed himself by saving the 2nd penalty - but, by then the damage had been done.

Then you concede soft penalties ( too many already for such an early point in the campaign ). These are also individual errors - which need to be eliminated. The first was committed by Josh Wright - who probably was the best Gills player - so, perhaps a case of bad luck.

Then there is the injury situation. Not helped by Jackson not being able to play. He has linked well with our attacks so far this season - giving us an 'extra' dimension to our game - but his absence caused JED to shuffle the available players - putting Pask at RB. Now, he did OK, and actually tried to emulate Jackson's forward runs - but his absence in the centre of the defence was definitely felt.

At LB, Konchesky brings us a lot of experience. I do like some of his play - but I am worried at his lack of pace. He's not bad going forward - but struggles to return into place - this can only worsen as the season takes it's toil on his legs.

JED stated that, apart from the goals, we looked comfortable on the ball. Well - he actually was right ! On another day Nelson wouldn't have messed up. A different referee wouldn't have given generous penalties. The other individual mistakes wouldn't have been so many, and one day ( not this season ), we'll have a fit squad from which to choose the team................. and Yes, we were comfortable on the ball - but not in the opponent's penalty area. The scoreline was harsh on the fans - who could easily have been more vocal in their 'displeasure' - but were probably stunned in disbelief. Without those mistakes, our performance could have got us a decent draw - there is hope ! ------------------- but probably not for the Club's administration team !

So - why the title of the thread ? Well, a couple of 'lucky', probably happier Gills fans didn't get to the match - and not because they didn't want to go ! --- after all, why would they have booked to be on the coach and were at the pick up point ( at the correct time they were told ), if they didn't intend travelling ? But - these 'happy' people missed the coach ! The time they were told by our ticket office was different to the actual operating time -- although, after various discussions on the coach, it would appear that 'several' different times have been displayed ( for the same pick up point ), on different media sources............... anyway, I bet they're glad that they stayed at home ! ---- and I know the chap in front of me wished that he hadn't 'just' made it onto the coach (he, too was told the wrong pick up time) - because his name wasn't even on the passenger list - despite personally going into the ticket office to make his reservation.!

If you think I make up these tales of woe - ask Peter Lloyd - see if you can get him to stop shaking his head !

I believe this was all just a ploy to make the rest of the teams in the league to think "oh they got thrashed by Scunny, they can't be that good", so when we come to play them, we win all the games.

Or is that being too positive? <cheers>
