http://www.kentsportsnews.com/News-...t-2011/Gills-linked-with-former-strikers.aspx An interesting point mentioned that Norwich are holding out til the transfer window is closed for a permanent transfer away. Could our lack of a new striker be linked? Is Hess not rushing because the budget is limited and there is potential for a deal for Cody to be done when the window closes?
i would be happy with either lisbie or byefield. think i would choose lisbie if there was a choice but i would take byefield. i did mention that cody could return on loan a few weeks back
no thanks regards constable, he is one big moaner when things are not going his way...would cause unrest in the team...leave well enough alone! paul benson of charlton will be out of the door shortly...just hope to us?
Not too sure about Benson - since Danny Green (ex team-mate at Dagenham) has joined him he suddenly seems to want to stay... Out of the two options I'd prefer Lisbie only just...but lets hope for a Cody Mac return! Unlikely as it may seem.
sat nav the word with charlton is that benson who has not even made the charlton 16 so far this season, has been told to go and speak to clubs interested of which 4 clubs are interested one being notts county who he turned down....so see him leaving shortly to be honest....hope we are in the mix? lisbie would be a good option...maybe wage an issue...who knows? cody of course we would all want him back like a shoot, to many clubs interested with money and league status though...COMEBACK ONE CODY MAC!!! UTG!!!
What about Oli Johnson, also of Norwich. I haven't read about him signing for anyone yet. His goal scoring record is not great on first inspection but he hasn't had many league starts and most of his appearances are as a substitute.
What I think is happening is this, Hessy has a deal agreed in principle with either Lisbie or Byfield but is waiting until the end of the month to see if we can seal a late loan deal for Cody if no-one buy's him. However if we someone does buy him or he isn't allowed to join us we could then act quickly with either Lisbie or Byfield to make sure we bring a striker in by the end of the window.
Whilst you may well be right about waiting for Cody,I think its more likely that we'll get a young hammer.
Byfield..............well past his sell by date and a constant moaner at the Gills last time. Lisbie..........was good for the Gills in 1999 he's now 12 years older. Not all footballers improve with age. If not Cody Mac ........a hungry young prospect with a good track record in youth and or reserves. Oh... I forgot....we've got one of those already in Stefan Payne........
Did Stefan Payne really have a good track record?! Surprises me! Especially as he was at Fulham and playing against other Premier League/Championship youth/reserve teams?
i like s payne, he lacks confidence tho and never seems to get a real chance. when he played last year he looked scared to shoot, he needs a goal to start him off
Agree with you there in a sense Prog-seller. He was definitely scared to shoot, leading him to trying to take the ball past one too many players and losing it, frustrating us all in the process. He never seemed to really play up top either? Used to be stuck to a byline somewhere.
i just wheeled down gillingham high street to pick up my usual friday order of Perfect Fried Chicken and i noticed Paul Benson across the street standing outside an estate agent with a man in a suit (who could this be - his agent?). could we have had a bid accepted for him? is he looking for properties in the local area? UTG
How is it everyone seems to recognise players when they are out and about? Apart from the obvious Premiership players and some of out team,I wouldn't know them if they knocked on my front door
With no disrespect intended to Stefan Payne -he is not good enough to get Gills into league 1. He has had enough time on the pitch to prove otherwise and has failed. I would like to think that all he needs is a goal -but - I believe that we do not have the time to wait - and it's not as if he puts in the sort of performance that Kedwell does ( I wouldn't necessarily cry if he didn't score ALL season so long as he keeps injury free and continues his committment )
I think he's played the equivalent now of 5 full first team league games? If you call that enough time then I'm afraid you are very much mistaken.
I've been watching The Gills since 1963 and have seen a ' few ' strikers in that time ! I didn't say Stefan is NO good. I said has has not been quick enough to show us he is THE answer- and sadly we do not have the luxury to give too much time. I believe that Hess does not have enough trust in Stefan to play him in a 442 formation - as he would with a fit Birchall - If Hess thought otherwise surely Stefan would have started alongside Kedwell from the kick off. As I said - NO disrepect intended to Stefan. I would love for him to prove me wrong - because I sincerely do not wish to be posting comments to say ' I told you so ' next season ( whilst STILL in L2 )
people always seem to forget that hess and the rest of the coaches see these players 5-6 times a week in training. stefan has been with the club long enough that im sure hess knows him inside out, if he was good enough to warrant a starting place hess would give it to him, same goes for rooney, the kid is obviously talented but hess has obviously seen something to worry about that we dont get to see in the 20mins of game time he and indead stefan get on a sat or midweek. hess can obviously spot talent and first team starters for the gills, just look at cody, whelpdale and lee. yes i'd love to be able to give stefan a few games to see what he can do but unfort we dont have that luxuary as last year shows every game and every point counts when it comes to the end of the season
I agree exactly with what jokeykid has said there. We see what, half hour max? The backroom staff see a hell of a lot more than we do. Although in contrast to jokeykid I feel that the Rooney situation is because we genuinely have, and normally do, have a really top quality midfield. Up top, we're bare bones and Payne doesn't fit in Hess' plans.
