Here is the situation, a couple of my close mates (who have never entered Manchester) call themselves Manchester united fans. This makes me quite angry, not because I have a hatred for Manchester united. It's just that because you are one if the, if not, the best team in England they support you. I support gillingham and we don't get over 7000 on average and could do with some more fans. I try to convince them to come along with me but they don't want to as they say they are man u fans. Furthermore there families don not support larger teams they support the teams where they were from. They are in my eyes glory hunters, fair enough if your from Manchester or your family supports them or even make the effort to go see them but they don't. When I was little I was a glory hunter supporting you and Newcastle but then I took a proper interest in football and followed my mum to the gills. But they don't want to change there was. Do you lot understand where I'm comming from ? Anyways good luck for the rest of the season and what are your thoughts ?

I was born and live 100 miles from Old Trafford.
So that must make me a glory hunter, but.......

.....It was 1974 when UTD got relegated.

Up the Gills, and get promoted :)

It's pretty simple - the best teams attract the most glory hunters. Liverpool got them in the 70s and 80s, Utd get them now, Chelsea picked up a fair few when Mourinho was in charge, and City are now picking up quite a few. City even produced a "blaggers guide" to help glory hunters claim to be genuine fans before the FA Cup semi final <doh>

Being a glory hunter is more to do with the individual fan than the club - I'm sure if Chelsea / Liverpool / Arsenal / anyone else were as dominant as Utd at the moment your mates would be "supporting" them. Have you considered finding less plastic mates?

Who cares who supports who? I'm not a massive football fan, I enjoy most sports, I don't go to many football games because like I say I enjoy most sports, my main passion is horse racing.

If I supported a team like Gillingham I'd never see them play, as there never on the tele. When I grew up watching footy on the tele, as a child, teams like Man Utd and Liverpool where always on the tele. If that makes me a glory hunter then fair enough, but if I supported a smaller club id have no interest in football, as id never see them play.

I can understand people getting annoyed with the Londeners who travel up to Manchester every week end, as they could go and watch a London club, but for the people that don't care enough about football to want to go to the games, then I don't see any problem with who they follow:biggrin:
