Great start to the season and things are looking good, the team has steel and if you read some of the players tweets on twitter you can see how much they care, we just need one good loan striker, and if the rumours are true and its going to be Cody, we should have a very good season, cmon u Gills!

Hess' interview for Radio Kent described the game perfectly. Started off slowly but after 10-15 mins we really started to take control and scored two good goals with the help of some not so good defending by Crewe. Think after Whelpdale went off with a dead calf(?) we eased off a little, gave the ball away easily and we were getting a bit complacent in the second half making it difficult for ourselves because before their goal Crewe offered very little going forward in my opinion.

Today was the first chance to see the new guys for me and I was impressed by all of them but I thought Jack Payne was superb as he bossed the midfield and got stuck in and has also improved a lot physically and defensively since the last time I saw him play. I like the look of Kedwell but he needs someone next to him in a 4-4-2 formation especially towards the end of the game as he looked shattered which resulted in giving the ball back to their defenders.

A good, but nervy result but 2 wins from the first 2 games is fantastic and already 4 points better off from this stage last season with 2 games winnable games to come. Let's hope it's 4 wins from 4 this time next week.

I'd just like to say thank you to all the team for a solid performance - it was only one good ball that created Crewe's goal and the nervous last 15 ( +5 ) minutes. By then one or two were carrying knoCks after Crewe players kept leaving their foot in after their challenges - How unsporting not giving back the ball- have they been watching old Blackool videos ? A big thank you for Kedwell -he never gave up chasing - I'd like to see Stefan Payne be as positive. I also thought Weston appears to be recapturing his previous form. And a mention for Flintney - no chance with the goal - he did well. I know some people are 'worried' ( because goalkeeping is such a specialist position ) - but Crewe was more of a challenge than Cheltenham ( only got beaten at Brighton by a penalty ) and he equipped himself well.
Any way thankyou Gills for the 2nd of (my) 17 suggested victories - at this rate I not so sure if I am looking forward to the last 29 goalless games of the season ! UTG

I wasn't at the game so cannot comment on the performance, I listened on Gills Player and we sounded strong yet again, taking a right battering at the end but held out.

Two points from this game, I would like to pick up on:

    1. We have picked up a large number of yellow cards over the two games and yet Crewe yesterday picked up none, despite the unsporting behaviour we hear about and the challenge on Weston?

    2. Crewe were more of a challenge it has been said than Cheltenham, yet Cheltenham yesterday beat Swindon! Does this demonstrate how strong we really are.

The only problem I can now see, is our battlers are starting to pick up knocks also with another game on Tuesday, not much rest bite, so it will be very tough for our lads at Barnet and I will be more than happy with a draw.

Fantastic result, as unpopular as it seems the 451 formation is making us very hard to break down .With the quality players we have in midfield we are always capable of pinching the odd goal....long may it continue. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I'll be honest and say I didn't see this one coming, Crewe are a difficult team to beat at home, although they seem to be having a rough time of it recently. Surprised to hear some of the supports were shouting "ole" and especially worried to hear that Hess thought it added to the team complacency. Still three points is three points... happy days :)

The 'ole' thing came at a time when we were so on top it was justified. Every time we lost possession of the ball it just seemed that the nearest man in blue just stepped in and took it straight back off of Crewe, followed by another 10 first or second touch passes. Whether we became complacent or whether it shamed Crewe into upping their game I'm not sure, probably a bit of both. All in all though we were well worthy of the 3 points because in my view we were busier and tougher than Crewe in all departments.
