Gillingham Gills.jpg Vs 125px-AFC_Wimbledon.svg.png Wimbledon Match Day Thread

    20th April 2013
    3PM- Priestfield Stadium

This is a day to celebrate, it is not often that we could win a title and for the first time in 49 years it looks like we will win the league so its time to all get together and join in and be the 12th man and cheer on the gills, make sure you bring your voice and your ticket and join in the fun but please stay off the pitch, stay in the stands and lets all stand by the sides and watch the team celebrate at the final whistle once we have won the title.
Remember, join in and cheer on the lads COYG!!!

This is the Match day thread, this is where you can post your team predictions, chat before the game about the match or anything else, chat during the match and post updates on the match and also chat after the game about the score and write your match report. Also if I am at the match I will write my report after the match giving my view on the players, join in the chat and have fun.

    Team News
Joe Martin has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken toe and with Leon Legge rated 50/50 there could be a few missing as well as others who took knocks in the last game who could miss the game.
It is not yet known if Myles Weston will be back for the game but that would be a massive boost if he was.

For the Dons skipper Mat Mitchel-King could feature while striker Gary Alexander who missed the home game with Exeter City last weekend due to an ankle injury may be back but it is not yet known.
    Past meetings
There has only been 3 previous meetings with Wimbledon as this is only their second season in the league. We have not been very successful against them though losing 2 and winning 1, our only game at home against them was last season which resulted in a 3-4 defeat which I remember and that was a really bad game for a Gills fan.
We won our last game against them which was away and that was 1 nil.
    01 Oct 2011 AFC Wimbledon v Gillingham L 3-1 League Two
    21 Jan 2012 Gillingham v AFC Wimbledon L 3-4 League Two
    27 Oct 2012 AFC Wimbledon v Gillingham W 0-1 League Two

    Current league table
As of 18.04.13 Gillingham sit top of League two after 44 games with 82 points, 6 points clear of second place Port Vale who can still catch the Gills due to their goal difference meaning 1 points is needed for the title or a slip up by Port Vale in their final 2 games.
Wimbledon are not in as good position as they go into the final 2 games fighting to stay in the football league and after 44 games they have 49 points and are 22nd which is 1 points from the relegation zone where Barnet sit. They were on a good run a while ago but 1 point from their last 4 games has seen them drop back down to the basement of the league.

    HOADIE’S View on this match
This is not going to be easy and the team may be nervous knowing what this means to us but I feel one man will be fired up and that is Danny Kedwell, going to be awkward for him against Wimbledon but will he celebrate if he scores, he is a Gills fans as well as playing for the Gills but he also played for Wimbledon, it means so much to him I think he will celebrate as you can't deny him the chance to celebrate. We will win this one by 2 goals to nil and we will be the champions for the first time in 49 years.

    The score line and scorers
I think that the score will be Gillingham 2-0 Wimbledon with Danny Kedwell getting both of them.

    It is hard to guess what the team will be so I will take a wild guess and this is what I think it will be;

    Nelson

    Fish
    Legge
    Barrett
    East

    Gregory

    Whelpdale
    Lee
    Allen

    Kedwell
    Burton

Legge, Lee and Dack all major doubts for the match so would be unlikely for Martin to start them. We might see Gregory in a more advanced role with Frampton behind or he may choose to call on young Hess or Hare

Mmmm Nice sunny day to go and watch the Gills win a title. Not been in the Brian Moore stand since way back when we lost to WBA in the FA Cup. Hope the result is better than that one.<party>

Brilliant first half, we absolutely walked all over them. Wimbledon were a completely different team second half and we couldn't string any passes together. Draw was probably a fair result after that. I think Matt Fish had a shocker today, made so many mistakes. I think taking off Whelpdale killed off our attacking threat as Weston didn't prove to offer much.

Either way we have secured the title. Get in!!!!!!!!!

Weston done well at first but only for a short while, Whelpdale had one of his best games, kept on creating chances.

I was a little disappointed that we didn't win in style - but
History will show that the point we gained in this game secured the league title. It really won't matter ( for once ) that we let a two goal lead slip. Conclusions will be drawn that maybe Gills relaxed after racing to a 2-0lead. Wimbledon were fighting for their league existence and took advantage of Gills generosity - but ALL that mattered was the title - I'm sure that the fans would have celebrated just as much if we had lost the game - and still won the title.
Just for once I don't think we need to analyse the game too deeply - just enjoy the feeling the result has given.

I think the win would have made it so better as it was a relief to hear the whistle however it don't take much away from it.

Nice touch from Mad Dog today bringing the trophy back to the town end after the players had initially passed by without showing it to the fans there. Proves he is in touch with the fans . Well done Mr Dog

Well done Gills on securing the Championship. <ok>

I'm glad you've enjoyed your season unlike us. As Mad dog is an ex R, I've had to get my pleasure elsewhere. Cheers for that.
I'll be looking out for you next season too. All the best, enjoy your summer.
