first ever English match I went to, 21 Oct 70 was Gillingham v Walsall, was staying with rellies in Sittingbourne, still have the programme

Simpson, Machin, Folds, Smillie, Williams, Quirke, Woodley, Bailey, Green, Yeo, Pound Sub Galvin wonder if you guys remember any of those players

 

About four years before I started going. Most obvious name for me is Brian Yeo, as I went to the West Ham testimonial for him. Simpson in goal I recognise but was Hillyard when I went, and I recognise the name Quirke for some reason. The sub Galvin I recognise and I should remember him, but all very vague at the moment, so he would be the only one that I believe I would have seen. Loved them days, basic but simple and fun, wished I'd still had all my programmes from them days, all numbered 1 to 11, no messing about with numbers like today.

My first program is written in Latin - on a stone tablet !........I don't suppose many other members have physically witnessed every Football League promotion and relegation of The Gills.......here's hoping for a couple of promotions before my 'demotion.'

Should be well excited with the new signings and what looks quality, hoping for a gaol fest as I am finally excited about this season and our expectations

 

Potentially a totally new front line who knows how this one will go.
