Ok a difficult one to predict...well, I say difficult, it's difficult to draw the positives other than getting an absolute tanking. So let's take a step back for a minute... Gills started the season better than everyone's expectations - first an away win at newly promoted Accrington, i hoped for a point at best and certainly never expected to be bringing home all 3 points. Next up another new boys in Championship relegated Burton, a team in which we on paper did not have a good record against, we beat them 3-1, so it was a maximum six points out of six. Then a break from the league with a cup game at Championship side Millwall, regardless of Parkers inability with penalties we held them to a 0-0 in normal time. All in all a pretty impressive start against a mix of opposition, including one ex Championship team and one current Championship side. Then for one game it went all wrong, Walsall 2-1 Gillingham, and let's not kid ourselves this was not a close game, we deserved to lose through changing our strength of keeping the ball on the ground. So what of Sunderland, well they are where we expected them to be and Scunthorpe a pretty decent L1 side along with Charlton away showed they will eventually be Champions. Luton was their very strange blot on their record, does this indicate a weakness away... Priestfield has always been our Fortress, ask any Leeds fan, we expected a tanking then and breezed into a 3-0 lead (FS 3-2). And we did ourselves no shame last season, holding Blackburn to a goalless draw at home and losing away 1-0 to a goal by none other than ex Gill Dominic Samuel. As for Wigan the eventual league winners we also drew with them 1-1, the visitors equalising 8 minutes from normal time. I think our advantage is we have met Sunderland early, early enough for them not to be properly established, and they will be like Blackburn last season that strength will grow, but for here and now, if we keep our heads, play with passion and the 12th man behind us, we can do it... Gills 2-2 Sunderland (Hanlan & Eaves)
Whilst normal logic and quality of individual players says we should lose this one, I'm banking on the players responding to the Walsall game and the strange view that Sunderland are a big club to give them the incentive needed for the win. Gillingham 2 v 1 Sunderland (Charles-Cook, Hanlan, Maja)
Don't think that Little Sunderland will be able to deal with the class of the Mighty Gills tonight. Expect them to go back up north very disappointed Gillingham 6-0 Sun'land (Eaves x2, O'Neill, Reilly, Wilkinson & Charles-Cook) A man can dream eh
Ho hum.....been sat outside in the heat and forgot to post. Going by the score line it wouldn't have made any difference! 3-1 down after 22mins. And Scunthorpe are getting a right old d*cking at home........form books...Ha!
