    12th January 2012
    3pm- Priestfield Stadium

This is the Match day thread, this is where you can post your team predictions, chat before the game about the match or anything else, chat during the match and post updates on the match and also chat after the game about the score and write your match report. Also if I am at the match I will write my report after the match giving my view on the players, join in the chat and have fun.

    Team News
Gillingham have a full squad to choose from, after 2 away wins in a row it is likely that changes could be made with Danny Kedwell likely to return with Deon Burton likely to be rested.
Port Vale have Lee Hughes available after his signing, he could line up with Tom Pope who is the league top scorer.
    Past meetings
We have a mixed record against Port Vale having only lost 1 against them in our last five against them however overall our record stands at after 43 meetings, 14 wins, 16 draws and 13 defeats so we are near even on our meetings with us just edging ahead of them.
Our last defeat at home against them come in December 2007 when we lost 1-2 against them in League 1. This is our record in the last five meetings.
    16 Oct 2010 Port Vale v Gillingham D 0-0 League Two
    28 Dec 2010 Gillingham v Port Vale W 3-0 League Two
    08 Oct 2011 Gillingham v Port Vale D 1-1 League Two
    18 Feb 2012 Port Vale v Gillingham L 2-1 League Two
    22 Sep 2012 Port Vale v Gillingham W 0-2 League Two

    Current league table
As of 10.01.12 Gillingham sit top of the League 2 table after 25 games with 51 points and a positive goal difference of 23 but Port Vale sit in second place after 26 games with 49 points with a positive goal difference of 25.

    HOADIE’S View on this match
I think this is the hardest game we have left this season, we beat them away from home but as we know now we like playing away from home, Port Vale like us have a good away record so this will be even harder than the meeting on the 22nd September 2012 because we are now over half way into the season and with us top they will want to take revenge and this game means more than the one earlier in the season and the pressure is on us this time whereas last time the pressure was on them as they were at home. This will be very close I am thinking we may draw but the heart says a win so I go with a win for us.

    The score line and scorers
I think it will be 2-1 to the Gills with Kedwell and Weston with the goals for us and Tom Pope with the goal for Port Vale who travel home with no points.

Hope it is a good game tomorrow. I will be keeping check on the scores from Priestfield while cooking the burgers at Wimbledon. I will be joining you in cheering on the Gills boys at your next home game v. York on 26th January

So what do we think MA will do against Port Vale, attack or defend, some how it saddens me to think the latter. I would just like to see us batter them on all out attack but would that be fatal?

Away teams do seem to have the edge in results this season in League 2. Thus is why I think we will lose.

Unless MA adopts a backs against the wall, counter attacking tactics as has served us so well so far away from home... Plus takes the team on a 6 hour round journey back to Priestfield.

I'd hope our fans don't abuse Lee Hughes.
If nothing else it just spurs a player on to perform better and shove it down the fans throat.
I like the idea of silence when he's on the ball, or announced or whatever.

I think all out attack will be fatal. port vale are as good as us away from home- they will pick us off. i reckon it will be very cagey and legge and barrett with gregory in front of them will be key- they need to be on form i feel. I would also play Burton as in a game of probably few chances, you would want them to fall to him

Agreed - Exeter dismantled us really easily when we set up for all out attack.

I thought I would check on their main message board forum as well and it was stated 460 tickets sold earlier today with an estimated 200 making their own travel arrangements. So it seems about right.

It is very rare that the Pope comes to our local church, but he won't be having any fun today.

When I used to say to people football is my religion, Priestfield is my church people think you are mad as they don't understand that it is our religion.

Kedwell starting today instead of Birchall, that is the only change.
