I am looking for someone that went to this game, that would be available to write a article on the game and there experience that day,I have a man city fan doing there opinion of the events/day.
I'll write something about the game...I wish that people would stop blaming the time Mark Halsey added on at the end of 90 minutes. Right or wrong, we didn't win the game because we could defend a 2-0 lead in stoppage time with a back 5.
The worse thing is if you watch the equaliser you can see Bartram pulling his hand away thinking it is going over. The odd thing about the game was that we went to Wembley for the first time in the club's history as massive underdogs, nobody really expected us to win and it was such a carnival atmosphere. If we had been beaten 2 or 3 nil I don't think the pain would have been so awful as we were expected to lose but to come so close and to throw it away was soul destroying. Strangely enough it is still the play off final I enjoyed the most, we went to the Wigan and Shrewsbury games expecting to win, needing to win. There was no joy in the build up to or during the game, the joy at winning was probably more relief than exhilaration.
Regardless of Mark Halsey the name Paul Dickov is engraved on my memory for ever. It's like flashbacks of what fate meant to be.
I was sad enough to watch my tape of the game with a stop watch ! It was the first game where I had seen 5 minutes of 'Manchester' time being given. I allowed for every second it took for subs & goal celebrations. I couldn't make it any more than 3.5 minutes. Mind you if you think we might feel badly towards Halsey - you should ask Spurs fans how they feel about Mark 'Stevie Wonder' Clattenberg - especially if he offiociates in matches against Man Utd.
Three minutes to go my 8 year old son was cuddling me saying it was the best day of his life by the end of the shoot out he was emotionally scared for life. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse we were parked at the Man City end and had to walk past their celebrating fans.
Pulis did many great things that season, but his decision to put to Darren Carr was unmitigated disaster, we had looked relatively comfortable all afternoon but the addition of an extra defender completely through us, and that in my opinion changed the game, but hindsight is a wonderful thing and 2 up with a couple of minutes to go I am sure most of us thought it a sensible move.
very upsetting to lose after being 2 nil up but in hindsight was the best thing to happen to both clubs. We were not ready to go up that season and then to bring in some better players and go and beat Wigan in the final made it less painful.
Actually with the forward line and midfield that we had then, in my opinion, we were more ready then than a year later. We'd have held on to Supebob and who knows what would have happened.......
