Also if I am at the match I will write my report after the match giving my view on the players, join in the chat and have fun. Team News Gillingham have a couple of injuries and a unnamed doubt, Charlie Allen and Danny Kedwell have both been ruled out of this game however new loan signings Michael Richardson and Ryan Williams could both play a part tomorrow. Dag & Red have a full time to choose from which could see Ben Strevens start against his old club Gillingham after he departed last month. Past meetings We have only played Dag & Red 6 times winning 3 of them and losing 3 however we won the last meeting but that was the away game, when we played them at Priestfield last season they beat us and ended all realistic chances of a play off place in a dire 1-2 defeat. 13 Nov 2007 Gillingham v Dagenham and Redbridge W 4-0 Johnstones Paint Trophy 26 Dec 2008 Dagenham and Redbridge v Gillingham L 2-0 League Two 13 Apr 2009 Gillingham v Dagenham and Redbridge W 2-1 League Two 30 Dec 2011 Dagenham and Redbridge v Gillingham L 2-1 League Two 09 Apr 2012 Gillingham v Dagenham and Redbridge L 1-2 League Two 25 Aug 2012 Dagenham and Redbridge v Gillingham W 1-2 League Two Our last win at home against Dag & Red come back in 2009 in the season that we got promoted via the play offs however our only good win was in 2007 but that was a cup game and Dag & Red were new in the football league at the time. Current league table As of 15.02.13 Gillingham sit second in League 2 after 31 games with 59 points which is 1 point behind the league leaders Port Vale who have 60 points and we have now played the same amount of game as them. Dag & Red now sit 14th in the table after a bad start to the season where they were struggling form has got a lot better and they now have 41 points after 32 games and are only 8 points off a play off place. HOADIEâS View on this match This is a game that on paper we should win but as we know football is not played on paper, Dag & Red have been playing some good football and we have away from home but this a home game. We have a big problem with the home form and Dag & Red will know that and they will want to exploit that so we need to change the way we set up. I am hoping we will get over that and beat Dag & Red who also have been a side that we struggle against over the years so it may not be the best time to play them. The score line and scorers I think that the score will be Gillingham 3-1 Dag & Red with McDonald, Williams and Weston getting the goals for the Gills but Ben Strevens getting one for the visitors.
As I don't know who the player is that is ill I don't fully know what the team will be but this is what I would hope the team would be. Nelson Fish Legge Barrett Martin Richardson Whelpdale Lee Williams Burton McDonald I know I have dropped Frampton when he is getting better but Richardson I believe plays a defensive midfield role and you don't need two players of that type and if we are not going to play him there then there was no point in signing him because I don't see why we should be playing two players who play the same way. I think bringing on Weston at half time is best option probably for Burton who I was not sure if to start but I just hope we play the ball on the floor tomorrow because with more pace in the team now it should be played on the floor. I doubt Richardson and Williams will come straight into the team as I feel that they are more likely to be on the bench and come on in the second half. I think our main problem is playing the ball in the air too much which we need to stop as it is not just boring but it is not helping us, we haven't got a tall team overall really with not many players over 6 foot and with Burton and McDonald not being that tall it don't work, also with a player like Weston it should be played on the floor and there should be more through balls to the likes of McDonald and Weston and now Williams as that is the way it will work. I think this will be the actual team that starts (excluding the player who pay be missing due to illness) Nelson Fish Legge Barrett Martin Frampton Whelpdale Lee Weston Burton McDonald I also hope that our young players still get a chance as Davies has not had a sniff at the team since Legge come in and he is a great player with a lot of potential just like Dack is, sitting on the bench don't help as at that age they need to be playing more so I would like to see more of them as well as some of our decent young players who are starting to come through that haven't played yet.
and Morecambe still won and we won so we are top of the league and are 2 points clear, great news and funny considering I had a Port Vale fan saying we bottled it at York and they can't even beat Morecambe at home, I think I may message him again.
Much better today even though we let them have space too much at times, improved and a step forward and you can see we changed our style and I understand that even though Daggers are not the best side they are hard to break down anyway I am happier today and I will write a match report later on.
A very tidy twenty minutes from Steven Gregory too - great character and resilience to perform so well coming into such a high pressure situation.
My m.o.m was Legge ratings were Nelson 7 safe not much action Fish 6 ok Martin 7 excellent first half Barrett 8 back to best Legge 9 awsome specially second half Robinson 7 got better as the game went on Lee 6 first half played well. Whipdale 5 not in the game Weston 8 tireless effort, everywhere. Brillant run at the end where Burton should have scored Frampton 6 worked hard in front of back 4 Mcdonald 6 did not do much. had a good chance with header but missed target subs Gregory 6 good in the air but looks slow Dack 6 nice to see him come on and battled well Burton 6 good pen but should have scored right at the end.
10,000th post and a big one, here is my report from the game yesterday. Yesterday was an improvement against a tough Dag & Red side who are improved I am much happier after that as it was not just an important win but we also returned to the top of League 2 going 2 points clear of Port Vale. You could see right from the start that we changed the way that we set up by playing different and playing the ball on the ground more which was one thing that we had to do more but the midfield also improved a bit but they still have a little bit of work to do on closing the opposition down when they have the ball. This is what I thought of each player’s performance; Nelson 7- He was good, not at his best at times in the second half where he made one or two mistakes but he was good most of the game and did not make any mistakes that cost us the game. Fish 5- Not a great day for him as he did get torn apart by the Dag & Red wingers and he also run forward a few times losing the ball and made a few wayward shots which were very poor. Legge 9- Top class player who had an outstanding game even without the goal he should have been man of the match, don’t get me wrong Barrett was brilliant but Legge was in another class and when you add the goal he should have been named man of the match as he ruled the game in the air, mainly in the second half but the first half was good as well. Barrett 8- Great game, not as good as Legge but he did do well and made sure we stayed strong when Dag & Red attacked us, good in the air and good passing to get the ball forward. Martin 6- Better than Fish and an improved player this season, he had a good first half not as good in the second half but I am happy with how he played. Frampton 6- I think when he was on the pitch he worked hard as he usually does and he only lost the ball once by what I remember, he has started to improve as a midfielder and we look strong when he is there, did not work as much where Dag & Red have a lot of pace but he is good and I think he does deserve to be there. Whelpdale 5- Not a great game, did not seem like his usual self and did not do much that I can remember of. Robinson 8- I think he deserves a lot of praise, a top performance, defiantly in the second half when he was in control of central midfield, he closed down on players when no one else tried to and he was successful twice one time which led to the penalty which he won and Burton converted, he looks a very good midfielder and someone we should look at signing from what I see so far but hopefully he can continue that and continue to get better. Lee 6- Not bad, not one of his best games but he did work hard but he should have had a goal when he had a header that he put wide. McDonald 5- Did not do much but he was not provided with much service, with him it is feed the mac and he will score and no one fed him with good balls. Weston 8- Top class performance, he lost it a few times but where he had the ball so much he needs to be rated so highly as he worked so hard and all he needed was a goal to make it 10 out of 10 which he could have had if he had been a bit more greedy and tried to run the ball inside and score it after he rounded the keeper and crossed to Burton but Burton should have put that away as that was a great cross. Subs Gregory 6- Looked improved when he come on, I am hoping he does get better and improve and I think he is worth more of a chance he will hopefully get better because if we forgot about the awful mistake against Wycombe I do remember saying I think he does has some quality there, hopefully we see more of it. I think it hasn’t helped that there has been a lot of idiots booing him and making comments that have put him off his game, if more people supported him he may become more consistent because he hasn’t really played that much yet if you think of it to make a judgement, let’s think of Fish he took a lot of time to become good, I know he come from non-league but Gregory was a non-league player before he went to Bournemouth and hasn’t played too much in the football league so hopefully he will start to fit in. Dack 6- You can see he has very good attacking instinct and I think he is worth a start in the team soon as he is a great player with a lot of potential, he kept trying to get away but Dag & Red knew what he was going to do but you can see how he wants to keep trying and trying and that is what I want to see from him. I would start him ahead of Whelpdale as he is off form sadly. Burton 6- He worked well and I think he seemed to do better than he has in previous weeks maybe the penalty will help him get more goals now as he did seem to run more than normal, however he should have had 2 or 3 as I think he missed one around 85 minutes into the game and then that one at the end was an awful miss, how did he miss that. Overall happy with the game and the performance, bit of work on closing down needs to be done and even though Whelpdale and Lee are two of the players that I really like to see on the pitch there has been many times this season that they have been off form and I don’t think they are the same now as they were when we were wanting them to sign for us. I think Whelpdale is the most off form and I would drop him for Dack or Williams which I was disappointed not to see playing as well as Richardson because when you sign new players it is good to see them play. My man of the match was Legge and then Robinson and Barrett, Robinson showed that he is a good player as we did not know too much about him and I did not expect too much from him but he was brilliant. Legge was outstanding though and at least he has a goal now which I think makes it about 18 different scorers if I am right and I knew he would get one soon as he has so much of an attacking instinct however I was surprised his goal was not a header.
