    31st August 2013
    3PM- Priestfield Stadium

This is the Match Day Thread for Gillingham’s Sky Bet League One 2013-2014 game against Bristol City. This is the place to post all of your Team Predictions as well as Chat before and during the match. This thread can also be used to post Updates on the match. You can also post your Views on the match after the game and discuss the performance with others. I may write my own report if I have been to the game and I will give my overall opinion on the result and what I thought of the individual performances of each player.

    Team News
Gillingham only have one player who is injured and that is Matt Fish, other than that Martin Allen should have a fully fit squad to choose from.
Bristol City team news to follow.

    Past meetings
Gillingham haven't got the best record against Bristol City as they have only won 21 of the meetings with them, drew 14 and lost 27 and the last time we played them which was in the cup this season we lost 0-2 so this will not be easy. The positive is that last time we met in the league we won which was back in 2007 which we won 1-0 however Bristol City have a much stronger team now than they had back then so this will not be easy at all.

    18 Nov 2006 Bristol City v Gillingham L 3-1 League One
    03 Dec 2006 Bristol City v Gillingham L 4-3 FA Cup
    09 Apr 2007 Gillingham v Bristol City W 1-0 League One
    14 Aug 2012 Bristol City v Gillingham W 1-2 Capital One Cup
    06 Aug 2013 Gillingham v Bristol City L 0-2 Capital One Cup

    The Current league table
As of 29.08.13 Gillingham sit 20th in League One after 4 games with 2 points.
Bristol City have also had a bad start and find themselves only 1 place above Gillingham in 19th with 2 points after playing 4 games so this means that if Gillingham win they will overtake Bristol City and it is also likely that Bristol City could drop into the relegation zone which they would not expect with the quality of their side.

    My View
I think that this will be a tough game however I still think that we are good enough to win this as Bristol City have not started too well and are only one place above us, although I don't think Bristol City will be down there for a long time I think that we won't either so this is two teams who are trying to get their first league win so I think that we can do this, however it will be really close and will be a tough game so don't be disappointed if it is a draw.

    The Score and Scorers
I think the score will be 2-1 and the scorers will be Cody McDonald and Danny Kedwell for the Gills and Marlon Pack for the visitors.

    I think that this will be the following team;

    Nelson

    Harriman
    Legge
    Barrett
    Martin

    Gregory

    Whelpdale
    Lee
    Weston

    Kedwell
    McDonald

I would not be surprised that Linganzi could be in the team and he would replace Charlie Lee.
I hope that MA goes with Kedwell and McDonald as I want to see that now and not Bayo and Kedwell.

I think Holland will be on the bench for this match.

Mmmmm that's two home draws where we've let goals in after the end of normal time in each half that has cost a total of 4 points. Concentration and effort must be maintained or we will continue to be punished. Better than losing but we're back in the basement section again.........

We were good in the first half, should have attacked more in the second half, however overall I am happy with a point. I believe that we will be fine, all we need to do is get a win now and then we will be able to kick start the season.

I'm never happy with a point at home, concentration and fitness levels have again let us down.
I know people will tell me about the quality of the opposition so far and how other teams will be easier but I don't think we should expect any easy games this season, every game should be looked at as winnable, it's a dangerous game trying to predict where the points will come from.
The performance today was better than a couple of weeks back but there is still some way to go.

Today without Nelson we would have lost so 1 point was better than nothing.
I said I expected Gills to be in bottom 4 at end of August if we lost to Colchester. I am not to worried though as we have had tough run of games. I feel that the team is good enough to go up the table but to really progress need real quality, possibly a loan player from a prem team.
