The Football League schedule can at times take the piss, in mid week fixtures should be fairly local in my view so teams do not have to travel inordinate distances to play games. Postponement can't be helped but this can, away at Gillingham on a Tuesday night is a joke. When do the Gills play at Deepdale, yep on a Tuesday night, farcical really. After yesterday's gentle encounter with Port Fail, the Whites make the journey to Kent after winning five games in a row, not an easy game as the Gills home record isn't bad this season. The Gills picked up a useful point at Rochdale yesterday with MacDonald scoring, useful player this lad at this level. Squad wise they are workmanlike rather than spectacular, since last season they have lost Big Ade but still have Danny Kedwell who fills a shirt well. Won there last season, be nice to do it again. Same side for North End or wll changes be made , possibly given the run of games we will have.
Totally agree with you, Maclad. The FL need to smash up that computer they use and try brains...if they have any.
During the season you look at results and say that was vital and last nights was one of them. Given that both centre halves were out injured plus Wiseman pulled out during the warm up. To play with a make shift back line get a clean sheet and three points is IMV a top performance. Admitted we had some luck in the first half, Jones saving well from Kedwell, Buchs clearing one off the line and one of their's hitting the bar. Second half battered the woodwork and scored one and won. Great result two games in hand although both are away at non too easy grounds but nicely placed to mount a serious challenge. Finally full credit to the 220 who went.
A goalie's saves are part of the team effort not a bonus so I do not see his efforts as 'luck'. There have been doubts about Jones' ability but he is part of a fairly successful defence. I haven't seen him but he must be decent to be part of this defence. I remember my father saying that Fred Else had his weak points and Alan Kelly as well. I thought they were immaculate in goal! But then I ws only a young boy.
