The surprise sacking of Mad dog Allen may have a positive effect on the men of Kent, little did Allen know when appearing on BT Sport last Sunday that at the time Edgar Davids was elbowing Steven Wright in the face, Allen would be getting kicked in the nadgers by Mr Scally. Two victories in three games seemed to indicate that the Gills had turned the corner but Scally obviously though different. Peter Taylor has apparently taken charge of Saturday's game against the mighty whites(well we were until 3 matches ago) It has never been the happiest of hunting grounds for North End, my one and only visit circa 1978 ended in a 2-1 defeat. For the home side will the shirt filling Ade Akinfenwe play with the equally slim Danny Kedwell, possibly the most muscular attack in the league. In the goal is Stuart Nelson who doesn't have happy memories of matches against us, having once been beaten by his opposite keeper from 95 yards. Team wise would like to see Brownhill start, looks promising and wants to get forward which is a god send for our crab like midfield. Would settle for a point although sneaking suspicion may win it, won't be there as it's miles away. Should read Priestfield Stadium
Martin Allen started his managerial career here at Barnet. Was fairly successful but went for greener grass and his career has hardly been spectacular since. I think he saw himself as a 'hair-dryer' type of manager. He should have learnt from Mr. Wenger, his neighbour. NE need to turn things around and the Gills would be a good place to start.
Hi maclad, The 2 wins in 3 sounds good, 2 wins in eleven not so good, include cup games and it's 2 wins in 14 which is depressing, if you saw how bad we were in the 2 wins you can understand why Scally decided to act. I'm hoping for the new manager miracle to bless us with a win tomorrow, but I've lived through 56 years of hope following the Gills so I'm not holding my breath. good luck for the season after tomorrow.
Good 3 points although by the sound of it hanging on at the end after the Gills had pulled one back. Great first start for Brownhill with a goal only 17 makes me feel old, Keane with the other.
Yes, a deceent enough win. NE seeemed to have run out of steam at the end and then Hunts came on. I first started supporting NE in 1954. Can remember watching the Cup Final against West Brom...vaguely. Used to walk to Lime Kiln and catch the bus to the ground or hitch hike. We used to recoop the 1/3d entrance by collecting the tea cups and collaring the 2d returns. Could never, at that age, understand why anyone would want to do anything else on a Saturday afternoon!
Hi maclad' you were deserved winners today, we only started to play once your second goal was scored. I don't think your the best team to beat us this season (and I've lots of experience at watching us lose) you seemed to get plenty of possession without putting pressure on our goal, that said you did enough to get the 3 points and that's what counts. Best of luck for the rest of the season.
That whole decade was fairly decent until Cliff Brittan or Britain came along. Did see the Busby Babes at D'dale jusst before the fatal crash. I see your advice was listened to and he scored! Keep it up, Maclad.
