I never go any where near the High Street and have no desire too LOL

Even the away pub near the ground the Livingston Arms was closed when i even dare venture that side of the ground a few weeks back.

DANGER; Approach Priestfield from an Easterly direction, preferably blindfolded. On no account go West of the Town End and continue to think its a nice place really.

Good man ! I like your spirit of adventure - but you'll be pleasantly surprised to find out that the High Street has not changed a bit in those 8 years --- it was rubbish then as well.

Gillingham is much the same as most high streets, rundown, over priced parking, charity shops and pound stores, with the likes of Blue Water with ample free parking, undercover shopping, great selection of shops, the high street is dead.

I'm afraid I can only confirm all the above. Went back there for the first time in decades (literally - certainly more than 30 years) a couple of years ago and marvelled at its similarity to Rochdale as far as the quality and selection of shops was concerned.

I do not have a particularly high opinion of the quality and selection of shops in Rochdale.....

It's like eastenders but without the reassurance that it is only on tele and not a real place.

GFC.....I really laughed at your comments. I was born there and had a few happy years with friends......'down the strand in the summer' then I grew up and escaped. I love my team but they are my only tie now. I return every few years just to look around............then turn around and leave with my thoughts.

You mean it doesn't look like this any more? Me Grandad drove steam engines and had beef dripping on his toast. Me mum worked at Lefevres and was in the girly chorus line for the annual Christmas do. They got bombed out in 1940 and lived in the re-built house after. Can anyone remember putting a penny in the slot in the toyshop to watch the toy train chuff round the track at Christmas....

Steve...you mean Baker's. A great toyshop in the old tradition...Tri-ang scooters for the rich....Mobo for the rest of us.

Found my old Triang scooter on ebay £25. Had it for Christmas when I was three. We ate my pet rabbit Fawny for Christmas dinner - but it was OK cos Grandad shot it with my new Lone Star cap gun. Lived in a cottage near Nanna Lubbock's grocers store on Medway Road

We looked through the windows of neighbours with awe at those who were rich enough to afford pets to eat..........this is turning into the 'Four Yorkshiremen' sketch.

We did have 'competitions' though to see who could get most value out of their 'Strand' swimming pool season ticket.
