For those who are not attending tonight, the cover it live service starts at 7pm! Living in Buckingham and not able to get to many games now, the service is invaluable for minute by minute updates!
Very erratic tonight which is a shame as the guys on there do a great job for those of us who can't get to every match
Two cracking goals by all accounts and the lad October looks to have real potential. All in all a good night's work! We had to let an ex Budgie score against us!
Not a bad performance by Gills. We started very well for about 10-15 minutes - but then allowed Ipswich to have a lot of possession. The ball was passed quickly, and mainly on the floor. First goal for Ipswich was a well taken free kick. This was conceded just outside the penalty area - by Dack who showed that he still has to learn when & how to tackle. Nelson pulled off a couple of excellent saves to keep it to 0-1 at h/t. McDonald latched onto a rare good ball to him and coolly scored just after the 2nd half started. Gills then enjoyed a bit more possession - without really creating much in the way of goal attempts. The 2nd half was very evenly contested - Gills were able to cope with some quick play by Ipswich. Legge was particularly impressive & Barrett was pretty solid. It was a little unfortunate that we conceded a second with the last kick of the 3rd minute of added time - following a very good move by Ipswich, resulting in a cracking finish. All in all - I didn't see much to worry the Gills - we were playing an established Championship side - and I would doubt if many L1 sides will be as good. The only concern I have on this showing is that we didn't create many opportunities - perhaps this reflected the ability of Ipswich to be able to press us quickly when we were in possession - which may not be the case for our L1 opponents.
I think a lot of what I have to say will reflect what Alwaysright has said. I think that we did well overall however we failed to create enough chances to win the game. I think a draw would have been a good result however Ipswich scored 2 great goals and won the game. I would say that Nelson had a great game as he pulled off a number of good saves and both Legge and Barrett played well. As well as them I also think that Gregory played well, he seemed very strong and played many good passes and he didn't seem to get caught out which is good. ( I think he seemed very cool on the ball and this meant that he played much better). I think that Fish and Martin did well at times however they did get caught out a bit, mainly Fish who did lose the ball a few times but Barrett and Legge seemed to cover very well. However I would like to say that I was disappointed with Dack who did seem to struggle later on in the game as time went on he didn't do great however it is only Pre-season and that doesn't matter now. All I think is that he did not create enough chances but I would say that the Ipswich defence is decent and we will probably not play against matter or even any better than that defence in League 1. I think that although we lacked creativity we played well and at times passed the ball well and did trouble Ipswich a few times and I think that we held our own and can be proud of this. Also I think that you have to remember that we didn't have Linganzi, Allen, Weston or Lee in the team and I think that Linganzi may have been the type of player that could have changed it for us. I was happy with Cody McDonald as he ceased the chance that he had and scored a goal, he didn't do much else as he was not given the ball enough. I think that this shows how good he is as he got a goal from one chance where he caught Ipswich out at the start of the half when they had not woke up which is what I like to see from Cody and I hope to see this more next season. Also on the subject of strikers I think Kedwell did well, I would like to say that he seems fit and sharp which is something that Bayo did not look as I don't think that he did well when he come on as he did not do much and he needs to make sure that he does more in the future, however I was happy with German who I think was sharp and on the ball and I feel that he had more chance of creating chances than Bayo did. However overall I walked out of Priestfield happy, it was a shame that it was a draw but they were two good goals that we conceded so I am not going to moan about that and I feel that we can be a good side next season as I think that the team did well and also the younger players that come on also did very well and blended in. Muggleton has a great throw, now wonder Martin Allen calls him 'The Weapon'. Also I think Grant looked good however he may do better playing against teams in League one as this was a bit tough for him to come into the team against Ipswich. All we need to do is change the team a little bit and I think we will be fine, we have the players to be strong in League one and this is enough for me. I think that the team that we played last night could even hold their own in League One without Linganzi, Allen, Lee and Weston as I feel that we would have more chances to create chances in League One as the teams are not as strong as Ipswich.
I think Linganzi may be the source of a lot of our chances this season, appears that he seems to be quite a creative player. Perhaps if he was playing last night then we would have created more. Easy to speculate though. Also don't be too harsh on Dack, he's had one season of professional football in League Two and lets face it Ipswich are a class above the Accrington's and Barnets that we played last year. Anyways I go into this season with high hopes of the team to do well although I do still have some concerns over Bayo's mobility which will probably be more prevalent in this league than L2.
Yeah I just think Dack may have had an off game and I think that maybe Ipswich was a bit too much for him at his age however he is still a big talent who I think will be good in the future. I would still play him against Millwall as I feel that he may do better against them but if Linganzi is back then I would start him. I would still go with Kedwell and Cody from the start as I feel that this will work.
Linganzi will be back for the next game as he was away to see the family. Weston and Allen were injured. http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kentonline/sport/A-3472/
