Quite a few boards are looking at renewing their banners for the new season throughout the site. So I thought I would just open up the discussion with Gillingham members to see if we are happy to keep the current banner for another season 'THE RAINHAM END' or whether anyone wishes to suggest a change, along with producing a replacement. If you want to have ago at creating a new banner it must be a minimum of 1800px wide. Also remember to consider the opaque overlay on the board when creating your banner. Stitching can be used to create the minimum 1800px width. It might be worth any creator to look around other boards on the site, to get a general understanding of how their banner may appear. If you are interested in creating a banner than please do so and post it to this thread. Then the members can vote on a final decision of whether to keep the current banner or replace with any alternative banners posted to this thread. Please notify me via this thread if you have any intention of creating a new banner, to enable me to consider the timescales that the site owner may have in need of these being ready and then implemented. Thanks brb
No sorry but could we keep clear of any references to #MadDogsPikeyArmy on the banner because it's not to everybodies taste and the board is open to everybody and it may just come across as a deterrent to possible new members. May be once the team photos are released we could have something along those lines.
whilst I wholly agree that it is not to everyones taste and probably shouln't be used anyone willing to sit in the Priestfield and be sung at about being a pikey but not willing to tongue in cheek take the ammunition away is a fool!
Whilst totally agreeing with Gemini's point, I do hear very clearly what you are saying throwoff and personally have a few views on this term 'pikey' which has not gone down well in some quarters. Going off topic I know but whilst we are discussing the subject: Are we are becoming to politically correct? I always believe someone should be able to laugh at them self before laughing at others. At no time was I using the term 'pikey' as a derogatory term, being honest I probably was not putting my brain in gear but I think most on not606 realise how this episode all started, what I thought at the time developed in to good old fashion British sense of humour. So let us look at other examples: 1. Millwall 'do not really eat babies' do they? In the same way we are not really pikeys. 2. So what was that word that was used towards Steve Evans when he came to Priestfield by hundreds of fans, I cannot remember ONE openly voiced complaint in regards to that term in our family friendly ground (putting to one side the other well publicised discussion). 3. Recently I witnessed a twitter user become followed by thousands of people for making a harmless comment/question, so many people re-tweeted it and sent messages that the user had to delete her twitter account. The girl was clearly not happy with the situation but again I did not see anyone shouting any concern in what could be regarded as cyber bullying. You know in the same way a kid in the playground does something that hundreds of other kids then ridicule. So as long as I do not use the term 'pikey' everything else such as my examples is ok? I am not going to start getting in to arguments in to what is or is not deemed as an offensive word, I just feel maybe some people need to take a very long hard close look around. Therefore I expect we will remain 'Barmy' which could also be deemed as...Eccentric; daft. or barmy balmy (Slang) adjective: stupid, bizarre, foolish, silly, daft (informal), irresponsible, irrational, senseless, preposterous, impractical, idiotic, inane, fatuous, dumb-ass. and NO I did not just make that lot up.
I have no issue with the #MadDogsPikeyArmy but I do think that there are right places to use it. The Banner is not one of those. I actually got into some twitter banter (is that called Twanter.) with someone recently over it. He wanted #MartinAllensMedwayArmy and personally I find that incredibly dull and it can also be shortened to MAMA which sounds wrong. Anybody who follows me on twitter would have seen that I do use #MadDogsPikeyArmy a lot so I'm not against it I just think it's not right for the banner, just my opinion.
I follow the person this was with! It did raise a titter when you called him on it being MAMA. Oh well, it is all in good jest.
throwoff - what is your twitter user name? One of these days I might work out who some of my Gills followers are apart from the obvious.
