    Gillingham 1-1 Bristol City

This was a game that we all knew would not be easy going into the game; however I was very positive and thought we may get our first win however I am not surprised it was a draw. I think that from the first half there was a lot of positives with the way that we played I was very happy, however it was a shame that we didn’t continue that way in the second half because I believe if we did that then we may have won the game, however you could see that Bristol City had a lot of class and we had run out of steam.

I was very happy with a couple of players who played well throughout the game and some may disagree with me on them however I think Steven Gregory, Michael Harriman and Stuart Nelson were the stand out performers.

I thought that Gregory had a very good game as he got stuck in and done his job very well, he looked much better than in previous games so I was very happy with him, however as the game went on he got tired and he should have been taken off before around the 70th minute mark however you can’t take anything away from him as I think he did really well. I also think that Harriman done well and was running very well creating a lot for the team, but without Nelson we would have lost this game as he pulled off a lot of good saves on the day that another top keeper returned to Priestfield in Jason Brown and I am sure he would be proud of the keeper than he sees between the sticks in this current Gills side.

Nelson 8- Great performance and I lost count of the amount of saves that he made, kept us in the game and earnt us a point with all his hard work. I think he should be the man of the match as he was the best player for us.

Harriman 8- Not far behind Nelson on the man of the match front. A very good performance by a very attacking right back, I really like what I am seeing from him and I am so happy that this is not the last time that he will pull on a Gills shirt. A real classy player who is so good going forward but as well as that he is good at defending which is what you want to see from a right back.

Legge 6- Not one of his best games, however not going to be too critical of Legge as he has been good this season in most of the games. He was too slow on the ball one time which could have cost us as the ball was stolen from his feet, however he was decent in the air and I am sure he will do better in the next game.

Barrett 7- Good performance from the captain with some great tackling. Barrett is so important and always works very hard, he tackles well and makes sure that the defence stays strong. I thought he put in a good shift and done well for us.

Martin 6- Not a bad performance however he didn’t do too much that stood out for me.

Gregory 8- A very good performance from Gregory in this game. I think that his tackling was second to none and he got stuck in and was very good when he was taking his passing, I know that he become tired late on however overall he was very good and I think the criticism that I see aimed at him was wrong as he was the best performer out of the midfield.

Whelpdale 6- Not his best game as he seemed tired at times which meant he was not the best however he was good in the first half. Should have been taken off in the second half.

Lee 7- I thought that Lee played well and put in 100% like usual and got stuck in. I like how he battles and that is why we need to keep him, I can’t believe we tried to let him go as he is a great player and he has played so much better this season than last season.

Weston 7- He had a good game and done well however he did make a few bad passes but take away this he did put a good shift in and did make some great runs and did create a few chances.

Kedwell 6- A good shift from Kedwell however it was not his best game as he did not get enough chances and I can’t remember a shot in this game however it has been a great start to the season for Kedwell.

Akinfenwa 7- I think that Bayo done really well in this game and worked well with Kedwell, got another goal which meant that we got a point from this game so I am happy with what he done in this game, also I would like to add I think he worked harder than he has in previous games with him even trying to make the odd run here and there.

Subs- I don’t think any of them done much of note for me to say anything about them.

Man of the match- I think that Nelson overall was man of the match but like I said before Gregory and Harriman were also good in this game and were close behind him.

To be fair Hollands had no time to do anything much - the sensible ones among us will reserve judgement for a while!
