Darron Gibson was glad to get back to winning ways on Saturday DANIEL MCDONNELL â 19 SEPTEMBER 2013 DARRON GIBSON is ready for an immediate return to international football and confirmed that his year-long exile was solely down to his problems with Giovanni Trapattoni. The Everton midfielder has opened up on the breakdown of his relationship with the Italian which collapsed when he wasn't involved at Euro 2012, although he suspects that the former Ireland boss had an issue with him before that. Gibson says he would have stayed around if he had been involved at any stage in Poland, but found it impossible to play for Trap again when he asked the veteran boss why he was left on the sidelines and was told he was too young. In a lengthy interview, the 25-year-old stressed that he was keen to explain to Irish fans why he had chosen to go into exile for the unsuccessful World Cup campaign. "There were people saying that I didn't deserve to put the green jersey back on, but they don't know what happened and don't know how I felt because I've never spoken about it," said Gibson. "I've been thinking about this for a long time, but I did not want to disrespect the manager and say anything bad about him. I am ready (to come back) because Trapattoni is gone. If I'm called up, I'll come straight back in." Gibson would welcome the appointment of fellow Derry man Martin O'Neill, and Roy Keane is another name that appeals. "I think he (O'Neill) would be quite good, he's experienced and I think he'd get on quite well with all of the lads, he's supposed to be really good one-on-one with players," said Gibson. "Roy would be quite good, I'm not sure how some of the fans would react. He'd be good, but I am sure the FAI will pick the right manager."
