....wants to stay in France, with Rheims. http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...20514/hull-reject-wants-france-return-172013? Question: Who pays his wages?
We paid half each last season(roughly), it will be interesting to see how Ehab gets on with shifting him.
With only one year left on his contract, I would expect he'd be willing to take a 25% wage cut in favour of a longer contract with them - that is if they're willing to pay that extra 25%.
Yeah - that's it: OK for Ghilas to stay at/return to Rheims on his very good City wages (even if they do pay half)! But not so good for our wage bill.
He was the league's top scorer and you'd expect Reims will want to keep him and as he's into his final year and wants to stay, you'd expect him to consider a lower wage for a longer deal(though I suspect that will depend on how big a ****er his agent is).
I know it's a different standard of league and he wants to stay there... but I've secretly hoped he'd come back and help our attacking plight. I know he's expensive but I'd rather he played well for us than for someone else whilst we pay his wages! His Hull career could've been so different. Yes multiple managers haven't seen any worth in him and yes his contract is extortionate but he obviously knows where the net is... I'd go so far as to say that if he wasn't mis-managed in the first place under Brown then we'd have had a better attacking line this season and last season. He looked promising for us a couple of times but then never got played. Maybe he had Bullard-esque conditional wage rises in his contract and his downward spiral began there? I don't think he could've been that disinterested here if he went to Reims and just switched on the form...
Maybe Ghilas North African roots will appeal to Ehab and he will get an invite back here to justify his wages, hope not though because when I saw him play looked like a lobotomised Craig ***an, apart from that cameo role on the telly MOTD (wasn't there)with Altidore v Bolton
....and here's an update, from the Fail: Hull City: Ghilas wants end to Tigers nightmare KAMEL Ghilas will tell Hull City he wants to quit the KC Stadium for good this summer with a permanent switch to French football. A memorable campaign out on loan has seen the Tigers' forgotten man inspire French club Stade de Reims to promotion out of Ligue 2 and into the top flight. I WANT OUT: Kamel Ghilas is determined to quit Hull City and stay in French football after a 14-goal spell at Stade de Reims. Ghilas' 14 goals in 34 games have helped Reims end a 21-year absence from Ligue 1 and drawn interest from a host of suitors on the continent. The Algerian still has another year to run on the four-year deal he signed in August 2009 when completing a £1.8m transfer from Celta Vigo, but he has already made it clear he would prefer to find a fresh start ahead of next season. Ghilas' wages will be the obvious stumbling block should City agree to the player's wishes. Although he has drawn his admirers with a successful season in the French second tier, any move would again need to be heavily subsidised by the Tigers. The Mail understands a season-long loan at Stade de Reims saw only £4,000 of his £16,000 weekly wage covered by the French club and a similar deal was in place when Ghilas spent the 2010-11 season with Arles Avignon. The figures involved essentially override any market value attached to Ghilas and any permanent switch away from East Yorkshire would see City forego a transfer fee. Ghilas' profitable season has at least strengthened the Tigers' hand should they choose to cut their losses, and the player admits he is unable to predict where his future will lie. "I feel good here," said Ghilas. "The people are perfect and I feel very integrated into the club. "My first wish is to stay, but I still have another year of contract in England and Hull has to decide. "I know there are other French clubs interested in me, but I cannot make a decision at this moment." Ghilas has not featured in a competitive City fixture since January 2010, when he was a second-half substitute in the 4-0 Premier League defeat at Manchester United. The 28-year-old can boast just eight starts for the Tigers during his three-year association with the club and managed just one goal when scoring the winner in a 1-0 victory over Bolton. Despite featuring in pre-season friendlies in each of the last two campaigns under former boss Nigel Pearson, the decision was eventually made to send him on loan to French football. Ghilas' lightweight frame was deemed unsuitable for the demands of the Championship by Pearson and although Nick Barmby's successor will have the final word, it appears unlikely he will be back at the KC. Stade de Reims will head up the queue for his services after he helped end two decades in the wilderness for the former French giants, scoring his 14th goal as they won 2-0 at Amiens on Friday. http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-16086712-detail/story.html?
HDM report the french club paid only £4k of his £16k a week wages. Hardly half each is it ? But yes just to get his wages off the books should be a priority of Ehabs this summer i would suggest. Free transfer if you take his full wages i would suggest should be the sales patter on Ghilas.
His annual salary - £832k per annum, on a 4 year contract and he started 8 games for us.! Shows what absolute madness the premiership is and why clubs like ours will never succeed in the top flight unless there are more Sheiks out there with money to burn. There should be a clause in every contract that relegation means lower wages. Hopefully a lesson learned if we do go up to the top flight again.
Hopefully the lesson is learnt, I cannot see us ever giving these sorts of contracts out to players again!
At the start of the season I suggested to one of our coaching staff that we were probably only getting a £2-3k a week contribution to Ghilas wages and he said 'no, it's actually nearer half'. Maybe he was wrong, maybe the Fail is wrong, maybe he's just ****e at maths, but that's what he said.
Certainly it should be a lesson learnt, but there's nothing to say smaller clubs shouldn't be able to stay in the PL, we were a victim of mismanagement on an enormous scale. There are much better ways to do it and more gradually.
the fact is we were still throwing silly money at players under pearson. simpson 11k a week adebola 9k a week and you wonder why the allams got rid.
