As a club we have a fine rep of producing mainly wide players, four comig throu now with Chambers, Rowe Sinclair and McQueen who has been struggling alot with injuries. Does our style of play really suit this kind of player or could our system be tweeked to fit them in? We push so high up the pitch that do we really need a no10 style of player? Ramirez is somewhat slow on his feet but when he gets the ball in that area he is pounced on by two midfielders, only Lallana with his extraordinary quick feet can work in that area. Most teams have one fullback slower or less able than the other. Could we not pick our team allowing for 1 wideman to attack this poor fellow with our fullback in support?. Chambers would be first oick on the right and probably Rowe onthe left. Play a 433 with the same Rickie, Jrod and Adam upfront but dispense with the extra player in the middle for certain games and pay a wide player. Bring in Davis or Cork for tough games and play narrow- It seems a shame that the most promising youth players will struggle to get into our system as they would have to displace Rickie, Adam or Jrod
Kinda goes along with my concerns as Sims is another player that will find it difficult to get games unless we can change systems for different games. Find it hard to see how Targett can be close when he does not even make the bench with both Shaw and Clyne out injured. Also totally forgot about Isgrove. So thats at least 5 wide players that may well stagnate unless we are more flexable and imaginative with our formations. The fact that they are raw is good and bad, Rowe for example has a good delivery, is fast and works hard. With a player like that the other teams fullbacks can not take too many liberties pushing forward, the Everton game we suffered because Coleman was not pushed back by Shaw yet on the otherside Chambers made Baines look slow and put in some good deliveries.
Remember that crying kid at Forest? West Ham have given him free tickets in the directors box. Talk about kicking a lad when he's down.
Sims can easily play in the 3. As with Targett he will be bsck up to Shaw next season imo. (Haven't said that before have I )
I'd give Targett a game, no idea if he is up to it but at least he wouldn't get pelters from the crowd for every misplaced pass.
