January window is looming up and papers reckon we've agreed terms with Maiga. This worries me for several reasons:

    1. The bloke looks like a faster version of Shola ( gangly with a few tricks)
    2. He's scored 4 goals so far this season and can't even get in the top 20 scorers in the Ligue1.
    3. Not sure he compliments Ba
    4. Do we want to play 4-4-2 to accomodate him?

Look at Suarez ( I know goofy diving whinger ) or even Hernadez. These guys mooch for fun. They're nippy and clinical finishers. In my view, this is the sort of finisher we need to go get.

In Cabaye and HBA we've two lads who can put a ball on a sixpence, so putting through balls and playing to Ba's strengths ( pace and touch) and another pacy forward is right up their street. Imagine Ba and Suarez????:smiley-finger007:

Finding the new Saylor must be our 1st priority.

Everyone looks at a few youtube clips of Maiga and decide they know better than our manager and scouts, give him a chance. We havent even signed him yet!

    I don't, this time around.

Sorry, but if he's struggling to score in Ligue 1, what hope does he have here? It isn't going to be any easier. In fact, it's likely to be much more difficult. He will get less time on the ball and much less space.

  5. Well we don't know if we're definitely signing him, but maybe his lack of goals recently have been because he's got his heart focused on a move away?

just wrote a post on erdnic who i'd rather see here than Maiga for a few reasons, the main one being i think his stlye of play would make him a better partner than maiga who is very similar to Ba.
so our options up front with Ba,Best,Shola and Maiga would mean we've got a set of forwards very similar with no alternative,i believe erdnic would be that alternative the best way i can describe him (from the limited time i've seen him) is a very raw welliton.
He's got bags of pace technically good and feeds off the main striker yes he's rough round the edges but he's only 24.After watching him a bit i can see why we pursued him most of the summer.

Erdinc refused to move here, I'd prefer a player who is clearly desperate to join us like Maiga.

I've said it before: He's decent but I don't what he will add to our already congested attack ...

Without sounding racist , we should try to get a non-African striker in January! There's no point in getting Maiga as his goal scoring record is poor + the ACN which will be played AGAIN next season in January.

6 games can make or break a season and I want us to have someone like Giroud or De Jong who can fill Ba's boots and deliver the goods whilst he's away.

I'd rather we went back in for him been watching a lot of French football for obvious reasons and he's far better than Maiga.
I'm sure limited time on the pitch would have changed his mind besides we always knock players for being disloyal yet we then go and knock players who don't want to leave a club showing loyalty knowing he won't get a game due to grem signing stating he wants to fight for his place just because he turned us down.Yet we want the guy who's desperate to leave his club he goes on strike when he doesn't get his way over the loyal player who choose to stay,it's obvious and probably more so to erdnic that his face doesn't fit now so he'll probably be up for a move in Jan.

I'll admit I've seen very little of him, but based on his stats on Wikipedia he hasn't usually been much of a threat.
In addition to that, he's going to be going to the ACON and could get injured out there. Ba will also be going and we don't have any regular scorers in the team apart from him.

Just seems a strange (potential) signing.

I think Carr's opinion is being a bit overvalued, as although the signings since he came in have been mostly good, they were all fairly well established players. Tiote and Cabaye for example had both won league championships in the season before joining us. Marveaux had made over 100 appearances for Rennes, played for the France U21s, and had almost signed for Liverpool before joining us. Ben Arfa and Santon were both very well known, etc. Abeid is the only potential 'obscure' signing he's made, but we don't really know how good he is or will be yet.

The point I'm trying to make is that Maiga is a much lower profile player than those, and doesn't really have a particularly impressive career so far. A lot of people seem to think Carr plucks players out of obscurity, but for us he's done anything but that so far.

Kolo Toure might have something to say about that.
