I know I like telling everyone on here that I have followed City for sixty five years. But last night on a packed number 24 bus after the Bristol Rugby game, I was twice offered a seat by young men aged approx twenty years. I declined as it would have embarrassed me to do so. All my family tell me I look years younger than my age but I am now wondering if the are all telling me lies.
It is amazing, age ... especially when people play the guessing game ... "so how old are you" ? guess ! "I would say maybe early 60's"? LET ME BUY YOU A PINT ! !
At a recent Rovers' Tuesday evening home game I stumbled as I entered the ground and fell face first. Had it been a 'youngster' there would have been chuckles and perhaps one or two helping hands. In my case at least half a dozen good people gathered around, helped me up, insisted on me not carrying on unless I felt ok. I was in fact fine and the slight twist of the ankle and grazed knee were nothing compared to the realisation that age was creeping up!
If that had been in Broadmead, they would probably have left you there and walked over you! And if it had happened outside Ashton Gate while wearing your Gas shirt, you might have ended up in the pilings for our really plush and large new stand!
