My mate was behind the goal that day. Just as Beckham lined up the free kick, he shouted out "For ****s sake Beckham, your free-kicks have been **** all day, let Sheringham take this one". He's never quite lived that down
Peter Taylor, selling cars for a living! Haha, he made the stupid decision of leaving us for Crystal Palace. However we may not have gone to the Premier League had he not left. Back on topic, that Beckham goal was brilliant. One of the two World Cups I have been to. We were ecstatic in the stands!
They were right about it being a great individual performance, too - I can't remember another game in which a team has collectively played so terribly and one man has done so much to carry them.
We need that sort of a performance tonight from Gerrard, and if we get through a few more need to put that effort in against the Krauts.
We really don't need one person to pin our hopes on. That's why so far I think we've been under the radar, and we have such low expectations. Normally we think we have 1 or 2 players who will set the tournament alight. This time, we have a solid TEAM, who play in their formations, who control the game. It isn't pretty, but its effective and I think we could actually do ok playing like this. I prefer it like this, most of the other teams who have one stand out player have basically been ****e. If we win tonight, us versus Germany would be the game of the competition I think,
Us vs. krouts would be a belter. Would be interesting to see if Germany's flowing attack can manage to pass their way through our defence.

I'm really excited about this now. I'm not usually that bothered but Roy has got me on board this time. John Terry any time scorer 12-1 yes please.
It really has got 0-0 written all over it. I fail to believe that we can go the whole tournament without a goalless draw and with Italy's natural caution matching up against the most defensive team in the competition it has to be.
I hope it doesn't go to extra time and penalties. I can't believe it's 16 years since we've got past the 1/4 finals of any tournament.
I see your great goal and raise you this. Absolutely brilliant.
Obviously I want England to win but whenever I think of Italy in tournament football I cant help but think of this. Truly one of the great World Cup moments and you can almost feel every sacrifice, every injury, every freezing cold 10 mile run undertaken in the past 20 years come flowing out in one moment as he realised his ultimate dream:
On ITV last night I see Keane was saying Italy would win so England really do have to win to prove him wrong, in fact I hope they are outstandingly good just to shut him up. I really hope it isn't a nail biting game, would love England to score 2 goals in the first half just to make me a bit more relaxed in the second half. Hope Carroll gets to come on as well, he has grown in confidence and I think he could score more goals. Seeing Gerrard's reaction at the end of the Ukraine game was great, he and the rest of the team seem like they are really up for this and for once it is like they really care.
