I used to work for a bookie, to me it's not an illness it's a addiction and like all addiction you have to want to give it up.
(Took me years to give up smoking)

Good luck to him but gamblers very seldom kick their habit.

I think the guy is incapable of dealing with this without cognitive therapy and medication and to me the gambling is more a symptom of deep seated problems. It appears that he has an impulse control disorder which needs treatment.

:emoticon-0104-surprThis is going deep.

Gambling is a hard one, i stopped gambling big time 5 years ago, now i give my mate a fiver at home matches and he puts the bet on as we pick 2 goalscorers, that is it, prior to me stopping, it was more than an addiction, it was all i thought about, i once won £5k in one day and lost the lot the following day, that was pretty much it for me, so yes you can stop but believe me it takes tremendous will power, i still watch horse racing now and again and have even taken my father to Chepstow races and i still didnt have a bet. I am out of the woods now but it has taken a long time. I really hope Chopra can kick it, and not to sound awful but, if he cant kick the habit now at his age, by aged 34 max he will be skint for the rest of his life, fortunately i will always have my military pension and i am also self employed and earn decent money, there are many ex sportsmen who are absolutely brassic after earning mega bucks, i am sure Hartson had much the same problem at one time also.

Good Luck to chops in his fight against his demons, and well done to you isawronniemoorescore, hope it continues to go well for you

Ronny

Glad you seem to have your demons under control mate <ok> The hardest thing with stuff like this, is to admit to yourself that you have a problem.........then it takes balls to go public with it; looks like you've made that giant step <ok> lets hope Chops can do it now.

As someone who's background is the gaming industry , having spent 18 years in it, I have seen many many people in chops position. I have seen people literally lose millions across the tables, they have lost everything including family, friends, businesses and careers, I only hope that he is getting the advice and therapy needed, gambling can be an illness more profound than drinking or smoking.

If anyone is suffering with things , try gamble aware they are there to help

Ronny

So glad your past your worst, you seem to have your head screwed on right WELL DONE M8

It's clear now why the Chops deal went through when we were managerless and for a perceived bargain price.

You can't put a cost on something like that.

Good luck to Chops and well done to Ronny.

I can't begin to imagine what it must be like.
