Barton like it or not is from an era where we made long term trophy signings and let these lads either lose the plot like him being in Strangeways and us still paying his wages.....or lose their edge like Smith who on £4million a year cannot even get a run on against Scunthorpe.

For me, he's a good player, not a great player. He really only proved his worth when he was AC supply line humping balls in.

We've lots of lads who will play in his role and won't act like spoilt brats. A four year deal proves other teams needs are greater than ours. Nolan on five year deal just the same.

Both these teams will live to regret such long term commitments to such journeymen.

I have to agree, im actually rather pleased with the club trying to get the squad age down and you have to admit, although he is alot less tempremental, can still be a liability. (Could/Should have seen red against Arsenal some would argue.

I don't know. He hasn't had a niggling re-occuring injury for quite a while now so that would certainly go against him.

So you think Fat Mike would buy him on a 4 year deal................this must be why he was NEVER offered a contact AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!

The fact that teams like spurs or villa wouldn't touch him should tell us something.

What are the odds on QPR getting relegated; Joey available on a free due to a requirement in his contract and Mike snapping him up on a 4 year deal within the confines of the wage cap?

Spot on. Aside from his self-belief he was England's best midfielder........it was always downwards from Newcastle. QPR about right. Had Norwich offered 5 years he'd be there!

Must admit im surprised some of the more established premier league names didn't take a chance on him. Just shows you how much they believe the extra baggage he carries off the pitch outweighs his ability on it.

One good year in 4, totally scared of the abuse at Blackpool in the Championship and has a totally over inflated ego. He's meant to be an attacking midfielder yet he scored 4 goals in open play for us including goals against Stevenage and Peterborough.

You're dead right Newcastle wouldn't buy him today. One: he's far too intelligent; two: he says what he thinks; three; you can't get him on the cheap.

This entire saga was to get all the attention onto him, he loves it. When Song stamped on him he had to make a meal of it, walking off the pitch in a big tirade and demanding that the fourth official had seen the incident. Then all his twitter ramblings and getting into arguments with fellow professionals and big name journalists. Causing that fight with Gervinho, who didn't get a penalty awarded and therefore there was nothing to get mad about. The ref done his job but Barton felt he still needed to do his, for the lime light.

Then he makes this QPR move deal as long and as tedious as possible so he can get hundreds of messages from gullible Toon fans saying "Come on mate we love you please stay!" While openly ignoring the fact that QPR has a fan base and they deserve some respect from him, at least he could acknowledge there existence. The man has been gallivanting around the football world causing trouble, and tricking people into loving him. He received a 3 year contract but turned it down. Good-****ing-riddance!

    Rant over.

What a stupid ****ing moronic post! We wouldn't sign Shearer today. We wouldn't sign many players we have in the past. It doesn't mean you don't need them

Honestly!! He played for us and he was loved, he leaves and now we wouldn't want him or his attitude wasn't good enough. Some of you are the reason us fans get called fickle, ****ing joke! Ashley should have offered him a 4 year contract, but no, he gives Shola a 2 year extension <doh>

He wanted a 4 year extension but Ashley didn't want to give him it, or is that wrong?

He also wanted increased wages apparently.

I wont deny he's a good player ofc but I will say as a human being, I think he's secretly a very vile one. Or not so secretly..
